NaNoWriMo 2014!

Don't know what NaNoWriMo is?

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Website here!

Who here is participating this year? Are you already planning or do you prefer to start with nothing on November 1?

As for me, this time around I'm writing a Batman fanfiction (of the "what if?" variety) and although I'm still in the early stages of planning I'd like to have a full outline by the end of the month, because I'm not good at pantsing at all (I tried and failed spectacularly a couple of times already with that approach).

(For the mods: I have no idea how to tag this post, sorry.)

I'm going with the lighter version. mini_wrimo This is my third year there and... Yeah, I'm happy with that. :)

Good Luck!

Ooh! I saw that at the beginning of the year and thought it's a great idea. But then I went ahead and forgot about, probably hoping a wonderful person such as you would remind of it again when the time is right ;D

So, thank you!

Sign ups end October 31st and they have branched out to include Dreamwidth this year. :) I know haldoor signed up as well. I think the minimum is 100 words a day, which is usually doable, and the most common pledge.

Thank you! I'm still waiting for approval. I've also signed up for getyourwordsout in Jan and have pledged to write the minimum of 150k this year, which translates to 411 words a day. You can shift that around a bit though, because reporting is only once a month. But since RL has made me fall massively behind with all my pledges/goals, a day-by-day challenge might be a good thing to whip my word counts back into shape!

I am doing an SGA/Agents of Shield crossover!

Ohh, that sounds fun. Good luck!

I've tried participating in Nano before, but that kind of writing is not for me. Managing ~3k per day is way beyond me.

So, I'll be focusing my energy on all the other projects I have lying around that I wanted to finish/continue before the year is out :D

In seven years of participation I never won Nano once, but I still do it every year ;D the challenge is just too fun and no matter the final results it always pushes me to write a lot more than I usually would, so it's a win anyway \o/

I see! It's great that this works well for you! :D I'll be starting small this year, and see how it goes. Maybe I can increase my pace year after year.

fairyniamh is right; I too have signed up for mini_wrimo, which is also a good way to get words out for November without trying for something quite so high as regular Nano! I've never managed 50K in one month ever, as it's beyond my reach in anything less than 6 months (especially at this time of year when things are crazy-busy). Mini-nano works perfectly, as the minimum 100 words per day means you're only looking at 3K in total. I went for 200 wpd this time around, though I have done more in the past. I figure this time, since I'm WAY behind my goal for the year, 200 is doable along with everything else going on in my life at this time of year.

I'd encourage others to give it a shot if Nano itself is too daunting, and you don't have to stick to just one thing either with mini, as what you write your words in is entirely up to you. I'm using it to work on at least one WIP, if not more.

Your post is now tagged with 'resources: other communities' as that seemed most appropriate!

And good luck with Nano! ;-)

I've participated four years, won twice, lost twice. My life is too busy to do it this year. Between school and work and life occurrences, I can't write like I use to. However I have been writing a Drabble a day for one topic since January 1st, and I haven't stopped once :P it's been a great year, really. My goals have flown. My words for need anymore buffer. Nano was fun in high school and college. I remember write ins and coffee and WORD WARS! Those are the best :)

Doing it in high school was mostly frustrating for me because everybody kept asking me what I was doing. And I really wish I could do write ins, but I live almost literally in the middle of nowhere and not even on the forums for my country I could find anybody close enough to meet up with...

I'm participating this year! I've done NaNoWriMo 7 years now? I think this is my year 8. Lost the first year (only had a little over 13,000 words) and I've won every year since. THe first year I wrote alone and in year two, I found out that a local group started and we've got a couple of groups on Facebook that write all year and I work so much better when I know others are writing like crazy along with me! :D

This year I'm combining three story ideas I never really started so we'll see how that goes! I'm also doing all of my writing by hand or on my phone so hopefully that will work out okay too! :D
