Monday Madness: Original Fic

Hi all you original writers out there! I know I missed an entry for July when my calendar wasn't sending me reminders, so I can only apologise for that. I am back on track now and seem to be getting the reminders again *crosses fingers*.

So, today, who wants to play a little writing exercise game? I know we did a challenge last time around, and that went very well for some of us... (yeah, not me, unfortunately).

How about a drabble or comment fic in one of your own universes? Give me a shout if you want to play and I'll find a random prompt for you (if you need it). If you join in, write your words and link or post them here, so we can all read them. If you'd rather just add to something you're writing in that 'verse, go for it - sharing an excerpt would be nice, but not required if you'd rather not share.

Let's say... any time this week. Track this post if you're joining in, then you can see what others come up with before next Sunday!

The stories I have that I'd be willing to work on are: (gay) Victorian vampire story, Future Earth after the apocalypse (more men than women), NZ future story after a flu decimates the population (gay protagonist) (yeah, there's a kind of theme going on here, isn't there?), English public schoolboys with a secret (yes, there's sexual confusion here), or NZ coming of age story (featuring some abuse, so a little dark in places).

Anyone can ask for me to add to or write something short within any of these universes; even if you're not writing yourself. Just give me a random 1-2 word prompt and choose one of the above stories, and I'll see how many I can play with over this week. I'll extend the time if a lot of you prompt me and I feel the need!

Rug - NZ coming of age.

And give me a prompt :-)
Aug. 18th, 2014 07:37 pm (UTC)
Oooh, I'll see what I can do with that! Thanks!

Your prompt is: Twelve times it's happened. Only Twelve.
Aug. 24th, 2014 07:42 am (UTC)
Okay! I managed words. Please be warned this does mention abuse, so feel free to not read if that is not your thing.

So - Rug Extract

I hope you found the prompt I gave you useful! ;-)

It was a great prompt- it actually jumped me off on a new original short fic, but I'm not ready to share just yet, lolol. So prompt!awesome, execution!fail, lolol

I left a comment over at your scene- strong stuff!

No worries! I'm just glad it set you off! I'll look forward to seeing it when you're ready to share!

And thank you for the comment! ;-)

Future Earth after the apocalypse (more men than women) intrigues me!

Not sure how to put it in a few words, so I hope a scenario is okay: what's it like for women to go out in public? Do they need escorts or have a curfew? It's not really fic, but it's still writing!

And Hit me! The more prompts the merrier (because it seems to be the only way I get things written)! PS: I'll take prompts from anybody who wants to give them <3

Thanks! Hmm, women don't really go out where men are in this world, but there is a scene where they travel from one place to another, so I'll play with that for you.

Your prompt is: If someone asked, I would.
Aug. 21st, 2014 06:23 pm (UTC)

But, first.. will you accept a fill with the tense changed slightly? Because I can't figure out how to make the main character reply with that, himself, but as a group (aka "we would") it makes sense.
Aug. 21st, 2014 09:07 pm (UTC)
Absolutely! If it works with that change, go for it! ;-)
Aug. 18th, 2014 01:37 pm (UTC)
Not sure of the years your Victorian era story are.
If before 1860 the prompt is: Opium
After: Cocaine

Hit me up. Just like my fandoms, my originals are all over the place.
Aug. 18th, 2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
Ooh, cool, I'll be going with Cocaine. That would definitely work.

Okay, your prompt is: I don't think he knows

*rubs temples* I added a chapter (175 words) to The Cookie Crumbles. T.T I will probably wind up adding more to it. My brain works in mysterious ways.

Aug. 19th, 2014 07:36 pm (UTC)
Your brain is incredible! Kaige and I wrote about crayons some years back, and this is something along similar lines (more smutty though!), so I love it! I'm going to have to go back and look at the rest of it too! Awesome work! ;-)
Aug. 19th, 2014 08:07 pm (UTC)
Much more smutty and it just turned sweet. I would wait in reading it. I am fixing to add more. XD The cookies have invaded my brain!
Aug. 20th, 2014 01:44 am (UTC)
Okay, I actually finished it. I added 1,400+ words. T.T Now it has Cookie Mpreg and a Mini cookie (instead of a baby.)
Aug. 31st, 2014 08:37 am (UTC)
You did very well with this crazy little fic! Congrats! (and what a scary place your brain can be!) ;-)
Aug. 31st, 2014 02:51 pm (UTC)
I keep telling people that my brain is scary, but they don't listen to me! XD
Sep. 2nd, 2014 08:30 pm (UTC)
PFFT! I find the scary stuff exciting!

i am working on an original ficlet inspired by the "Ancient Aliens" makeup challenge on SyFy's Face Off (SFX makeup reality competition).

the challenge was that the artists were told to pick an ancient wonder/temple and create an alien that might have had a hand in its creation. the winning artist had a really cool little backstory she gave her character so I'm trying to write a short story around it.

working title is "Her Vengeance".

OOh, sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing how you do. (Did you want a prompt?)
Aug. 18th, 2014 08:06 pm (UTC)
would I have to use it in an original fic? cuz depending on what prompt you give me, the muse might consider it a fanfic idea.

tl, dr: i have no control. she drags me where she wants to go :P lol
Aug. 19th, 2014 07:38 pm (UTC)
No, not if you don't want to! I give you: Bananas. Use it or not; all up to you!

Ha! Do I know that feeling...
Aug. 19th, 2014 04:45 pm (UTC)
OMG, I love all these projects you're working on! I have an affection for vampires and coming of age stories, both. Good luck on all of them.

I just finished reading a Gothic gay romance written back in the '80's that I really enjoyed. Definitely different. Your Victorian vampire story brought that to mind.

As for me, I'd love a prompt! What I've got stagnating are a m/f vampire story that I'd really love to finish one of these years. Another m/f that's a straight contemporary romance. I also have my boys, Ethan and Travis, who have nothing to do (other than plan a wedding but yanno), so they're up for anything.
Aug. 19th, 2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I hope I can spend more time on them, but fanfic keeps catching me... (and we won't even discuss RL)

Oooh, I love Gothic gay romance. I have a couple from the 80's that are just gorgeous. Which one were you reading? I wonder if I know it?

Okay, here is your prompt: Against the wall

I hope it's good for at least one of those stories!
Aug. 21st, 2014 10:18 pm (UTC)
I hope you get a chance to spend more time on them as well. Although, there's nothing wrong with a bit of fanfic either. (RL sucks, enough said!)

I know we talked about this, but it was Gaywyck by Vincent Virga in case anyone else is reading this. LOL I need to find more like that. GUH.

I love that prompt. And it would actually work in all of them plus my OTP as far as the FF goes. Heh.

This is what I managed. Not sure if I can call it an excerpt or possibly a deleted scene, but it really makes me want to get back into this story ASAP.

Aug. 31st, 2014 08:36 am (UTC)
Oh yes, the Vincent Virga! I love Gaywyck!

Your scene was great, as I told you already. I hope you get back to write more in that fic soon! ;-)
Sep. 2nd, 2014 10:23 pm (UTC)
It was so good, too!

Thank you! And I really hope I can, too. I actually even have ideas for PLOT. That never happens. LOL
