Rationalizing

Disclaimer: I tell you this, not for sympathy or to be cheered up, but to show that it does happen to everyone.

My BFF will tell you that I have a gift for rationalizing anything. My own behavior, or a complete stranger who is driving slowly on the highway (maybe it's a rental truck and their normal car is a smart car and they don't know what they are doing with a box truck on a highway in rush hour traffic!). I can find a reason for it.

It also happens that I can find a reason not to write. As I said yesterday, there are no interwebs invading my home. None, and I've left out interweb treats. It should also be mentioned that I do not own a word processing program. Everything I write is on g.docs, which I can't save to without those pesky interwebs.

Sure I've told other people to write with paper and a pencil when they have no computer, and I do. Everything I've posted in the last few weeks had been stuff that I hand wrote and then snuck in the type-ups at work (much like this). But I am finding myself rationalizing not writing the big things I've promised because it's to difficult to do it by hand and it can't be done elsewise. (Is that a word? Spellcheck says no. Of course it says spellcheck isn't a word either. Those should both be words! We don't need no stinking hyphens!)

And so, rationalized, I say that I'll have internet any day now, and I'll have time at work to write, and that big bang I promised will come together any minute. Then I go to the dog park.

So it happens, it happens to everyone, and we will all snap back. :)

I can't tell you HOW MUCH this sounds like me. I blame it on being a psyche major for three years (before wising up and took on something more practical).

It is kind of amazing how, once those usual distractions are removed we find other things to distract us or reasons not to do what we should be. I'm so good at that. :) However, it always seems to work itself out in the end, right?

It does, I think we, some of us, do better under pressure. Or at least better with pressure as a motivator.

And yes, EVERYTHING serves as a good reason to distract! Oh look, a chicken! And I'm off!

I definitely do better with a deadline, and pressure is a good motivator for me, too.

Hah! Hopefully that chicken is lunch/dinner or is on its way to being lunch/dinner!

Exactly, do not stress yourself--it will happen, when it happens.

I don't know anything about what you're saying....oh wait. You could be describing me!

WHY would I wait until 10 on Sunday night to start my homework when it's due at midnight? And not just once but twice. Then I can't get up to go to class Monday morning.

When I quit my job and then decided to return to school, I had grand plans to start my own consulting business. Have I done it yet? Nope. Fits and starts. I get a little ways into it then one of those chickens run by.

I am in a very fortunate position that I don't have to work full time while I'm in school. Do I take full advantage of all that extra free time? You can guess the answer to that.

Guilt. Feeling guilty is one of my specialities. Avoiding changing those behaviors is not. So yeah - I know exactly how you feel.

(((Many encouraging, warm, loving hugs. Because you are the BEST.)))

*hugs* Thanks so much hon!

We have scheduled Eggs' eye surgery and I'm going to take off some time around then. Hopefully to write much many words! ALL THE WORDS!
