Hey everyone - Happy Monday! It's time for a break from creating your own work; just for a short while.

flying books-square

So use this post to link anything you'd like to recommend to us, be it fic, vid, icons, poetry, wallpapers or any other creative thing you like. And this fortnight's prompt is foregone too, so let it be whatever you like, just make it anything you've seen lately that impressed you enough to want to share it with the comm. You may want to ask the creator's permission before you link, but we would love to see your recent faves!

Why not, it's high time I go through my AO3 history and clean it up, so this gives me a good excuse to do it!

On a vaguely related note, does it annoy only me this current trend of using an excerpt of the story as the summary instead of writing an actual one?

“We can go to – I dunno, where do you want to go?”

Clint stared silently, half wondering if Stark was being serious or if he was just being Stark. “Cancun.” He tried.

Stark clutched his heart (devoid of chestplate). “The best you can come up with is Cancun? Dream a little bigger, darling.”

Clint narrowed his eyes. “Don’t make Inception references.”

Waking up in a stranger's bed is not how superhero Johnny Storm planned on spending the morning after the night before.

From now on…

A) No more secret hookups with Peter Parker—he's the last man on earth Johnny'd want to share a room with, never mind a king-size bed.

B) Maintain a professional persona at all times. After all, he's a photographer for New York's #1 Superhero Bashing Rag and Johnny's perfect tabloid fodder.

C) Keep friends close but enemies closer. Easier said than done, with She-Hulk away on her honeymoon and Spider-Man avoiding him.

Definitely not the only person bothered by the excerpt instead of summary. I remember one really popular author in the DCU fandom who would give a title, possibly a rating, an excerpt, and the standard "contains content people might find disturbing" type of warning. Every raved about their writing, but I could never tell if I would like it. The excerpt was always super vague, too, and there was no list of characters, no pairings mentioned. So I never read.

Great recs (although I am not familiar with the last fandom)! Thank you for these. The middle one was hilarious! ;-)

Oh, and I meant to say I guess I haven't been reading enough lately to have seen the excerpts rather than summaries, but I certainly agree - there's an art to summaries and I have to say I appreciate that art, and much prefer it to the excerpt version.

I am one of those horrible people who does that. *sigh* I know it's not the best thing, but I struggle horribly to come up with a summary that doesn't give away things. I generally write small pieces of fic and descriptions of a drabble tend to be as long when I do give it a go. I shall endeavor to do better. ;)
