Comment Fic Friday

Hey everyone! How's your week been? Managed to get the words you were planning this week? Or did you have a week like mine where you were mostly distracted away from your goal and didn't make it?

Now's your chance to make up some words! I'm not asking for anything mind-blowing - just a short fic that will fit into a comment.

This fortnight my prompt for you is...
Misunderstanding

bowling

Whether it's someone misinterpreting something they see or hear and doing completely the wrong thing because of it, someone having to clear up a misunderstanding, or any other situation involving some form of confusion over what has been said or done, we want the words!

As always, there's no time limit and any genre/fandom/rating is acceptable. All I would ask is that you put your fandom (or lack thereof), characters/pairing, title (if you have one) and rating in a header, like so: H50, Danny & Grace, Wrong Way, PG. Please also point out if there are spoilers, just in case someone's behind on things.

Now, go forth and create!

Star Trek 2009, Spock/Kirk, Illogical, G
“I have some business to attend to in my quarters. I will see both of you later.”

Bones smirked as he waved, watching Jim leave the table and head out of the mess hall.

Spock sat with his back straight and ridged, slowly lifting a spoon full of plomeek soup to his lips. He didn’t particularly appreciate it when Jim left him alone with Dr. McCoy, however, there was no need to get frustrated about it. Jim was busy. He was Captain of the USS Enterprise. That alone meant Jim was up and around the ship without telling Spock where he was. It wasn’t like they were hooked at the hip.

However, tonight seemed – different.

“Oh, Jim. He’s a sly bastard. He slays everything and everyone in his path.”

Spock didn’t answer, letting Dr. McCoy’s words sink in. Slays everything and everyone. What – what does that mean? Is Jim okay? Is the ship in danger? Is Jim in danger?

“Well, not that you care, but I’m going back to Sickbay.” And just like that, Dr. McCoy was also gone.

The words circled around in Spock’s brain a few more times, making him increasingly – illogical. Jim is – Jim is mature, professional. He is also on duty. I – I need to -

Spock needed to investigate. He discarded his meal and headed for the nearest turbolift. He needed to check up on Jim, first and foremost.

-

Spock found himself outside of the Captain’s quarters two point eight minutes later. But he didn’t knock or ring or let himself be known. He instead stood there, listening to the hum of the ship around him. Jim.

Illogical. This is – illogical. Jim is – fine.

And for the first time in a long time, Spock entered unannounced into Jim Kirk’s unlocked quarters.

“No, no, it’s nothing like that – well, maybe. I’m not sure yet. I haven’t gotten a chance to – Spock?”

Spock stood ramrod still near the door way, his eyes on Jim’s slacken cross-legged pose as he sat on his couch, his PADD pulled up close. Spock didn’t answer.

“Hey, Sam, mind if I call you back in a few minutes? My First Officer wants an unexpected visit. I’m sure my Communications stand-in on the bridge won’t kill me for the holding the connection.”

“Sure, Jimmy. Don’t be gone long. Arianna has to leave in a few.”

Jim pressed a few buttons on his PADD and set it down. “Spock?”

Only an eyebrow rose. “I apologize. I thought – Dr. McCoy –“

Jim only managed a small laugh. “I’ve never heard you at a loss for words. How about this - are you okay?”

“Yes, yes, of course, Captain.”

“Good. Is everything okay out there? No one comm’ed me in distress.”

“Everything is fine, Captain. Just a slight – misunderstanding.”

Jim gave Spock a perplexed look. “You want to talk about it?”

“No, Captain. That is quite all right. I will leave you to your call.”

“Spock – it’s just my brother.”

“No explanation needed, Captain. Have a good evening.”

Jim sighed and nodded. “Good evening, Spock.”

Spock stepped back out into the hallway, still mildly confused. Illogical.
