Doctor Who Fandom Squee Day 3 - Vile Villains and Memorable Monsters

Here is a list of some of the monsters that have been on the light-up end of the Doctors screwdriver. It is not a complete list (hello 50 years here people) but it is the best of the worst.

Most loved or feared Villains

Cyberman
Unlike the Daleks that seem to hate and that is why they want to conquer, the Cyberman have every emotion removed and they become just one of a collective. Sounds like the Borg right? They even start to turn others to the same emotionless cyborg that they are.

In the villain scale, Cyberman fall right behind Daleks, in general.

Cybermen will remove fear. Cybermen will remove sex and class and color and creed. You will become identical, you will become like us.

Davros
A megalomaniac scientist, and creator of the Daleks. He has his sights on becoming the supreme being and ruler of the universe. He had no problem crushing any person or planet that stood in his way.

Well a man has to have his goals

Dalek

You have to live under a rock to not know of these world destroying cyborgs (not robots) that look like pepper grinders. They top the list of the most popular Who villains. And the longest too, giving the Doctor grif since 1963 and the 2nd episode. The are bent on destroying anything that stands in their way, much like their creator, Davros.

Did you know that the Daleks were voted the the all-time greatest monster in SFX Magazine, beating out Godzilla and even Gollum from Lord Of The Rings?

Take a look at all the Daleks through the show

The Master
I have heard his referred to being the Moriarty to the Doctors’ Sherlock. And I think it is an apt description Like Sherlock the Doctor is “off”, but like Moriarty (in Sherlock BBC) the Master isn’t just off his rocker, he left it in another country.

And for some reason (maybe because I am off my rocker too) the Master is my favorite villain. Maybe it’s his bond villain like plans, or the fact there are somethings the two have to work together, that is appealing to me. Of course the Doctor never had vampire teeth or shot lighting out of his hands did he?

The Silence

One of the newer monsters, the Silence, lives in the unknown. Don’t worry, you won’t remember then once you turn your head. They are a religious order, and are believed the prophecy, that when the oldest question in the universe is answered, silence will (or must) fall. As the Doctor is predestined to answer the question, the Silence made it their goal to make his death a fixed point in time and prevent this.

Weeping Angels
I think the most scary of the new Doctor Who villains (anything after 9). The creatures look like your everyday mourning statues. But when you see one, don’t turn, don’t blink, and for god sakes, don’t turn off the light. Because you might see that statue move closer to you.

The Doctor calls them The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely. eating off your potential energy, they will send you back in time, before you were born, and eat off the energy that should have been.

(Also thank you Doctor Who you made my six nights a week trip past the cemetery at 11:30 at night, where there are no less than 6 angles with bright spotlight on them, that much more creepy)

Other Monsters and Villains

Here is a list of some, other notable Monsters

Abzorbaloff
In 2005 the Blue Peter show held a competition to design a Doctor Who monster.
The winner was a nine-year-old William Grantham.

The Abzorbaloff “is a creature that absorbs other living beings into his body with a simple touch. In doing so, the Abzorbaloff makes his victims part of himself, adding their memories and knowledge to his own. The victims retain their identity and consciousness for at least several weeks after absorption, during which time their faces can be seen embedded in his flesh, but eventually, those too are eliminated as they are fully absorbed. During this period, however, the absorption process works both ways – in becoming part of the Abzorbaloff, they are able to access his thoughts, just as he is able to access theirs. To restrain his absorption ability, the Abzorbaloff requires the use of a "limitation field", which limits absorption to physical contact.”

This kid’s mind is kind of a scary place to be.

Cassandra As a villain, she is not scary or overly evil. She is not set on world destruction or ruling the universe. He main goal, when you first meet her, is to obtain money to continue to pay for plastic surgery. (She had over 708 of them)

But you will never forget her. A piece of skin stretched over a frame, she was nothing but eyes and mouth, brain held in a jar and attitude.

Michael Jackson has nothing on her.

Zygons

What’s better than squid like aliens? Ones that can shape shit AND are behind the Loch Ness Monster! Duh! This is why the Zygon, is one of Doctor Who’s, most loved villains, even though they were only in ONE episode.

Empty Child is one of the scariest, with their gas masks, asking if you are their mummy.

The Sontarans This warrior race, is not always the villain, even when they are listed in the top 10 best monster and villains, as voted by the viewers. Why, because they have been know to fight with the Doctor too, as seen When A Good Man Goes To War. Still they have been repeatedly crossed the Doctor’s path.

The Silurians The race older than us, these homo reptilia first tried to take back our planet. Later leaving earth to live in space. Another “villain” that turned out to help the Doctor.

So what monster or villain did you like? Which ones made you his under the couch?
