Advent Day 18

This started as a fic for another challenge, but got bogged down by my lack of creativity. Pulled it out and polished it up. Hope everyone enjoys it. Happy Holidays.

Title: Just The Two Of Us
Fandom: Hawaii 5-0
Pairing: Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams
Summary: Restaurant AU where Danny is the owner-manager and Steve is his head chef and lover.

Danny sighed as he settled behind his desk to work on the weekly schedule for the restaurant. He had had a couple people quit the night before, which had him scrambling for coverage.

Lunch rush was half an hour away and he needed to have a talk with his head chef since he didn't need the man chasing away anymore employees.

He rested his aching head in his hands briefly wishing he had choosen another career path. Like law enforcement.

Being a restaurantuer was more stressful than he ever thought it would be.

He melted into his chair with a sift groan when he felt a pair of strong hands start massaging his neck and shoulders.

"You're too tense, Danno," Steve whispered into Danny's ear before giving it a tiny nip.

"Wonder why?" Danny muttered as he pulled away from his lover's magical fingers.

"Is that a hypothetical question or do you expect an answer?" Steve quietly countered as he rested a hip against the desk.

"Neither since I already know what you would say," Danny told him with a sift sigh. He was tired and in pain, so he didn't have it in him to start a fight.

"I don't want to argue with you, Danny," Steve said with a resigned sigh. It seemed that all he and Danny had been doing of late was argue.

"I don't want to argue with you either," Danny said quietly. "I just want you to stop chasing people off."

"I didn't chase the last two off," Steve reminded Danny. "They couldn't handle the heat, so they got out of the kitchen."

"That was so bad, McGarrett," Danny groaned. "So bad."

Steve shrugged.

Danny gently shook his aching head. "Please go take care of the kitchen while I try to figure out coverage for the rest of the week."

"Are we really that short handed?" Steve inquired not surprised that his lover was trying to run their restaurant all by himself.

"Yes, we are," Danny admitted. "Good help is hard to find these days."

"Not really," Steve remarked. "I've got a couple of buddies who just mustered out. They could use a job and they have prior food service experience."

"Will they be able to stand the heat?" Danny teased tossing Steve's early pun back in his face.

"Of course they will," Steve retorted with a pout. "They're former SEALs."

"But of course."

"Hey now."

"Take it easy, McGarrett. I wasn't insulting your buddies," Danny quickly said hoping to prevent another meaningless fight. "In fact, they are hired."

"Are you certain you don't want to talk to them first?" Steve asked mildly surprised that Danny had hired his buddies before talking to them first.

"You're going to be their boss, so they become your problem if they fuck up," Danny succinctly replied.

Steve rolled his eyes in exsaperation. "What is it that I see in you again?"

"Besides a paycheck?"

"If I didn't have a restaurant to run, I would happily demonstrate," Danny lighly quipped and then licked his lips.

Steve had the goodness to duck his head and blush.

Danny softly chuckled. It wasn't often that he could make Steve blush, so he was going to secretly revel in it.

"I hate you," Steve muttered.

"Of course you do," Danny countered. "Now do me a favor and get the kitchen ready for the lunch rush."

"You are impossible," Steve grumbled as he pushed off the desk.

"I know," Danny agreed. "And, I love you too."

Steve sighed and left to get ready for the lunch rush.

Lunch rush was successful with the help of Steve's buddies, which relieved Danny as well as making him happy.

He showed Steve his gratitude after closing the restaurant for the night.
