Happy March!  How’s the weather where you are?  It’s starting to warm up here in the desert, even if it has been windy as heck lately.  But… that’s how we roll in these parts I suppose.  Here’s to hoping that winter is slowly losing its hold on you if you’re in the Midwest or East Coast.

It's a brand-new month, guys!  Time to start fresh and reevaluate what did and didn’t work for you last month.  I’m not 100% sure when our new challenge starts, but keep an eye out for it.  Speaking of challenges, how did you do with the rare pairs?  So many great prompts were supplied by Haldoor!  I’ve saved them all for future use.

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: burger.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

3. Big Buddy is at less than 1%!  How are we doing?  I feel it’s safe to say that wherever we are at the moment, we have time to catch up.  Hahaha.

asphaltcowgrrl –  900
agdhani –    3,000
cmk418 –       300
bizarra –     600
jennytork –   900
flipflop_diva –   600
simplyn2deep –  150

March’s post is here, there’s always time to join in!

4. The Daily Count challenge schedule is here so go forth and check when you’re up next!

So, that’s it for today.  Hope you’re all having a wonderful Monday and/or Tuesday!  My younger girl passed her driver’s test on Friday and is making her first solo trip to school today.  Wish her luck and me peace of mind!  Not that I don’t trust her but… I’ve been in that parking lot. Hah!  Here’s to a wonderful week.  Let us know what you’ve got planned to make it as awesome as you can.

Morning. You really want that burger, don't you? Or is it Zayne that wants it?

Well, I had more words last month than I did in January, so maybe my writer's block is getting better.

Hahaha... gave up and decided to make them for dinner this week, so I had a copy of Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes sitting on my desk when I wrote this yesterday. :D It was me, although you know the cowboy's not going to turn down a burger. Or any food, really.

That's great to hear! Hoping that you're starting to break through this block.

this weeks goal is some roleplay stuff that I need to get finished, getting the next book out to the publisher, and maybe starting to look over what I wrote during NaNo so I can pick it back up again for April's camp.
Should get me lots of words I hope :)

SPN: But Why? (flash fiction, burger, 163 words)
Why burgers?

Of all the foods Dean could have fixated on, why burgers?

It took living in an Art Deco bunker and being served a homemade gourmet burger close to his 30th birthday for Sam to realise the answer to that question that had bugged him off and on for most of his life.

During those long stretches growing up where they were alone, Dean made simple, cheap, filling foods. Whenever Dad could spend time with them, before the obsessions took hold again, he would take his boys to diners and greasy spoons, where Dean would have his precious burgers.

When they were adults and they would go out to eat together, usually it was for Dean to have a burger. Never ordering in.

And now, having that delicious burger in their own place, Sam realised why it was always burgers.

For Dean, a burger was something to have with your family.

For Dean, a burger was a way to show love.

I like this, it's very Sam and very Dean, too!

Bobby Flay Saves the Day - Romani Detective original fiction - the usual suspects - 496 words
“What would you like for dinner tonight,” Andrej asked James, who had just sat down at the breakfast bar. “I am on my way to the store now.”

James shrugged. “It doesn’t matter to me, you know that. I’m just happy you feed me as well as you do.”

Andrej smiled and wiped down the counter where he’d made his oatmeal earlier that morning. “I know that Zayne is more vocal about what we eat, but I thought I would ask you first.”

“Can you make some burgers this week,” Zayne asked, coming into the kitchen and sitting on the empty stool beside James. “Those ones with the cheese and the green stuff on top like you did last time?”

“Green stuff,” James asked, crinkling his nose in disgust.

“He means the chimichurri sauce,” Andrej said with a sigh. Sometimes, their comments only made things worse and it made his head hurt. “The sauce with the parsley, vinegar, and garlic you both liked so much?”

“Oh,” James said, his face returning to a less annoyed state. “Oh, yeah, I remember that. But when he called it green stuff –”

Andrej held out a hand. He got it, but he also knew that half of James’ comment was aimed at annoying Zayne and he wasn’t about to let it go on any longer than it already had. “Of course I can make those burgers for you.”

“Mmm,” Zayne said, rubbing his tummy. “You really do love me, don’t you?”

“God only knows why,” James sniped.

“Jay,” Andrej warned. “Stop it.”

“Sorry,” James muttered, not sounding it. “You want me to go to the store with you?”

He really, really wanted ten minutes alone, but he was worried that if he left James here with Zayne that there wouldn’t be a kitchen left to make burgers in when he returned. “Sure, if you would like to come along, you are welcome to do so.”

“Give me a few minutes to get dressed and we can go,” James said, sliding off the stool and heading for the bedroom.

“Would you like anything else,” Andrej asked once James was gone.

“Think I can convince you to make those utterly unhealthy, but utterly delicious onion strings to go with them?”

Andrej smiled. James loved those things and so did he. “I believe I can make an exception for tonight,” he said, knowing that he’d have done it anyway. Something as simple as onion strings were sure to make both of his boys happy.

“Thanks,” Zayne said, getting up and pressing a kiss to the side of Andrej’s face. “You really are the best. I’m going to shower. See you when you get back.”

Sighing at the averted crisis, Andrej finished cleaning the kitchen while he waited for James to return. Some days, loving two men was more trouble than it was worth. But then, on his worst days, having them both made up for every last one of their combined faults.

Thanks, I needed to hear that today. :) <3

You are always awesome! If people don't notice it, well then they are less than awesome!
Mar. 2nd, 2020 06:52 pm (UTC)
Hah, thanks! In this case, the men I work with are too busy telling everyone how awesome they are themselves to notice it about anyone else. :D

On the bright side... half day for me. So, about to blow this popsicle stand for the day. HOORAY!
Mar. 2nd, 2020 07:14 pm (UTC)
OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH Happy Day indeed! They are so awesome they can work without you!!
Mar. 2nd, 2020 07:24 pm (UTC)
Well... I have a phone appointment with Social Security so not sure it's HAPPY but necessary. :D

Hahaha... yeah, they'll never even know I'm not here.

I'm not ready for anything - but I'm going to try to fake it and see how that goes. Mostly I'm wondering how many First World Problems add up to an actual one. Right now I've got a confirmed throat infection, an apartment management team that wants so much $ next year I laughed out loud when I read the offer, and it's been three weeks since I didn't have homework from the office for the weekend.

It'll get better. Meds are on the way, there are other apartments if they won't be reasonable, and I will protect next weekend like it's your icon on this post. Ha.

I'm going to catch up on my writing class, too, and write myself some three sentence fics. ;}
Mar. 3rd, 2020 08:30 pm (UTC)
Oh no, when it rains it pours, I guess! I hope you're feeling better soon. Never getting a break from work only makes it harder to get healthy again. Yikes on the apartment management though. These places know you're stuck to a point and they take advantage of it.

Nice! Have fun with your writing class and the fics! I need to work on those, too.

OMG, it's Friday and I still haven't done the count... WTF happened this week?
Mar. 5th, 2020 10:32 pm (UTC)
It has been one of those weeks for sure!

And to prove my point, I forgot to update my count even! GAH! So, I'm glad you forgot?

LOL! I will count tomorrow probably!

It's all good. I got it updated. :) No idea where my brain is these days.
