Weekend Challenge: Festivals & Fairs

Happy weekend, all!

bizarra and I are in the midst of making travel plans for Memorial Day weekend - we're going to a statue unveiling and having a bit of a fandom get-together - so I decided to hunt down a list of interesting event destinations in the US.

There are 50 fairs and festivals to choose from (one for each state). Hopefully, the event, the location, or some other part of it will inspire you, this weekend!

You can request a specific state ; a number (or more) from 1-50 ; or I can hit the randomizer.

Not really wintery...but I did finally get it into a RP bit. Marty is Martin Riggs from Lethal Weapon...anyone else mentioned are NPCs. *** “Thank gawd for the interruption,” Marty grumbled as he got out of his car and slowly approached the checkpoint, trying to ascertain what the commotion was about. Most people had the good sense to stay clear of the infected zone, but there were always a few entitled idiots who thought they were immune, who thought the rules didn’t apply to them. To the first officer he reached, he continued, “What did those idiots think this was…the Coffeville Street Drags? There’s still people living and working downtown. Told ‘em if they wanted legal drag races they needed to take a petition up with city hall, not initiate it on their own.” He had spent since before dawn wrangling with the riffraff of racers who had tried to make downtown Havensport their race course after a few of the participants turned violent. He didn’t particularly want to accompany any of them back to the station and slog through paperwork. “Whada we got here? Something about Abbey?” He’d gotten the radio call, but with drunken taunts going on all around him, it had been hard to make out the details. Eventually he’d decided to just drive out to the edge of town checkpoint and check the situation out himself. By that time, the remaining street cops would surely be able to handle the drag racers.

Life - On the Road - Charlie Crews/Dani Reese - 210 words
“Remind me to never let you decide where we’re going on vacation ever again, Crews.”

“It’s grapes, Reese.”

“Not everything has to be about fruit.”

“There’s going to be live music.”

“Fiddle music, I’ll bet.”

“I’m not sure. And horse and buggy rides. That sounds like fun.”

“Maybe I’ll just stay in the hotel for two days and watch pay-per-view.”

“You did that during the Wisconsin Cranberry Festival and you missed a lot.”

“Not really. There was that murder at the hotel that I helped solve.”

“Solving murders in your free time hardly constitutes relaxation. Now, squishing some helpless grapes under your feet, that’ll do it every time.”

Reese makes a face, “Ew.”

“Know what the grapes say during the stomping?”

“Please, don’t.”

“Nothing. They just let out a little whine.” Crews laughs at his own joke.

“That joke is older than me.”

“What’s purple and wants to take over the world?”

“How long is this going to go on?”

“Alexander the Grape.”

“Crews, I will leave you by the side of the road if you keep this up.”

“Did you know…?”

“You didn’t hear what I had to say.”

“I didn’t have to.”

“Are we going to play the quiet game again?”

“That sounds like a terrific idea.”
