"What do you mean no?" Jimmy countered as he retrieved the flyer and slipped it into his shirt pocket. It advertised a place called Moody Gardens on Galveston Island. "It would be the perfect place for us to relax and unwind. Chet wouldn't be able to find us and force us to do a few more shows before calling the tour complete."
"No means no. It's two simple letters, Jimmy. N O," Desmond calmly explained. He wasn't in the mood to spend a day in a car with his lover driving to Galveston.
"I would ask you where your sense of adventure is, but that would be a discussion for another time," Jimmy grumbled. "So how about we hop in the car and drive until we find a place to stop that we both can agree on?"
"That is the true definition of a road trip," Desmond reluctantly agreed. "But which direction would we point the car in the first place?"
"We'll flip for it," Jimmy simple said.
"You know that there are more than two directions," Desmond reminded his geographically challenged lover.
"I'm aware of that, smartass," Jimmy muttered in annoyance. "Heads you pick a direction. Tails I pick a direction."
"Alright," Desmond sighed. He just wanted to get this nonsense over with so he could go catch a nap before that night's show.
Jimmy pulled a quarter out of his pocket and tossed it into the air. It landed face up on the carpet between them.
"Well?" Desmond prompted.
"Pack your long johns we're going north," Jimmy answered. He wanted to go to Galveston, but Memphis in the autumn would be just as entertaining.
"If we're going to Memphis, I won't need long johns because although it's autumn it's not cold enough for them.
"What makes you think we're going to end up in Memphis?" Jimmy retorted wondering if he was becoming predictable in his old age. "We could end up in numerous places like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, or Quebec."
Desmond rolled his eyes. "Stop while you are ahead or you will be going on your road trip by yourself."
"You are no fun," Jimmy sighed in resignation. He disliked traveling by himself since he had no one to entertain him.
"So you have told me on countless occassions," Desmond muttered. "Now, that we have our destination in mind, can I go catch a combat nap?"
"Yeah," Jimmy agreed. "I think I might join you."
"Come on then," Desmond said catching hold of Jimmy's hand and pulling him toward the bedroom. "I call dibs on the left side of the bed."
"Whatever," Jimmy muttered. He waited for Desmond to get comfortable before sliding into the bed behind him and curling up against him. "Sweet dreams, babe."
"Hmmm..." Desmond hummed and was soon fast asleep.
Jimmy followed him into dreamland moments later.
If you're curious, there really is a place on Galvaston Island called Moody Gardens. I was thinking about going there to celebrate turning the big 50.
