Can I Get a Yeehaw?

My go-to comfort music is country.  Preferably cheesy 80’s era country.  Dolly Parton, Dan Seals, the Oaks, all of it.  One of my favorites is Shelley West’s “Jose Cuervo”.

Who is this cowboy who’s sleeping beside me?
He’s awful cute but how’d I get his shirt on?
I had too much tequila last night…

The above is the battle cry for one of my characters.  Hah!

But I’m all about the newer stuff, too.  Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift has always inspired me with her lyrics.  You don’t have to say it – I know she’s not THE BEST SONGWRITER – but for some reason her lyrics always resonate with me.

When you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think about me (“Tim McGraw”)

Which is very accurate because, when this song came out, Tim was my man.  He’s since been replaced by a tall, dorky, drunk Oakie but I digress.

I said, "No one has to know what we do"
His hands are in my hair, his clothes are in my room
(“Wildest Dreams”)

This is my favorite Taylor Swift song and has inspired many ideas on long drives into work.  Shocked that Andy hasn’t had his Wildest Dream moment yet.  Hmmm… I feel an AU coming on.

Her song “Clean” reminds me of so many pairings, so many unhealthy ships.  But… I think I’m finally clean.

I know I’m getting old because one of my favorite 90’s-era country stars – Rhett Akins – now has a son (Thomas Rhett) who is making hits.  How did that happen?

It’s crazy for me to stop and look back at what my mom was listening to back in the 70’s and 80s – things like The Statler Brothers and Kenny Rogers – and what I hear today – Lee Brice, Carrie Underwood, Lil Nas X (LOL)… it’s really come a long way.  But no matter what, it continues to inspire me in new and creative ways all the time.

I mean, even my username comes from a country song.  ;)

No worries. I completely understand.

Little Kenny should help. No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem goes a long way to cheering a person up.

I knew you'd get my weird at this point. :)

Love me some Kenny. It's funny, but his slow songs tend to make me feel better than his upbeat ones. Anything But Mine (my fave), What I Need to Do, That's Why I'm Here... but I love the one you mentioned as well as When the Sun Goes Down. Because Uncle Kenny is hotter when the sun goes down (and you can't tell he's bald). LOL

(I need an intervention, STAT)

Need to make it through the next eight hours and then I am on vacation. Thank you, Jesus...

I do love him. Weirdly enough, him and Tim McGraw making of with that NYPD officer's horse endeared them both to me. :)

YOU CAN DO THIS! WOOHOO FOR VACATION! I still need a real one, but that's going to have to wait.

I'm so close to telling a certain member of management to fuck off and get the fuck out of my personal space that it is a good thing he finally went home.

Goddamn stupid fucking schmuck....

God, my boss went from telling me the company needed money to whining about how he worked last weekend and will probably have to work this weekend, too. What he forgot to mention was that he's taking 10 days off at the end of the month. Cry me a river, honey. LOL

DON'T LET THEM GET YOU DOWN!

He ended up staying over and about made one of my co-workers quit cause he was running her ragged. Completely forgot I was around, so I did my best to help her out and keep her calm.

Freaking asshole.....

LET ME TELL YOU THE TALE OF MY GIRLCRUSH

bizarra can tell you JUST HOW ANNOYING it is. 100%

But, yes.. late-80s to mid-90s country was just.. my childhood. Can't say I'm too impressed by the new stuff - except, yes, Thomas Rhett is 1200 levels of aDORKable - but it turns out (Thanks to Prime Country and Y2Kountry on SiriusXM) I know the words to waaaaaaaaaay more songs than I ever thought. Even the ones I never really liked LOL.

In short: Rhett has a grown son. With children. HOW DID WE GET SO OLD??!?! D:

Hah, I love it! My husband could relate to Bizarra though because I've made him attend way too many Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton concerts over the years.

I am so grateful to Rhett for giving us TR, because that boy is the gift that keeps on giving. Was taking my husband for blood work last week and an olllllllllllld Steve Wariner song came on Prime Country and I was singing along and he was... staring at me. Hahaha. Probably didn't help that the song in question was Lonely Women Make Good Lovers. :D

But it's okay, 'cause you're in good company. And now I need to go turn a song into a fic because it's fun. :D

I actually got to see them back in November, for the first time. Not gonna lie.. I had a moment or two ♥♥

3/4 of Faith's library perfectly fit the angst of my OTP... so much that I ended up using her for said character's RP account and every AU version of her I've come up with. LOL

But, yes... Paul Brandt, Diamond Rio, Chris LeDoux, and Blake make up about 80% of my general writing playlist. Not to mention Michael Peterson and Emerson Drive, any time I can squeeze them in XD

They are both so good live! I'm thrilled you finally got to see them.

Ah, I love it when someone's music is that inspirational! And hey, whatever inspires the words, I'm a supporter.

Paul Brandt! I almost never run into anyone who knows who he is (unless they're Canadian). And Michael Peterson's "From Here to Eternity" was the song for our first dance at our wedding. (I was forbidden to pick any Tim McGraw, LOL) You're hitting on so many of my old faves. :)

Streaming all of Blake's discography on Spotify at the moment.

Can I leap into the conversation?

I love Paul Brandt too - it might be obvious but “I Do” is one of my favourites and fits so many of my ships it is not true! He did the “Thank You Ilderton” party with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir last summer, it was very cool to see two of my favourites in two different fandoms colliding.

And “from here to eternity” is a solid choice for a wedding song. Mine was “she’s everything” by brad paisley, aka the only country song my husband will actually listen to. Can’t win em all I guess!

Of course!

He is so good and I love his cover of Junior Brown's "Highway Patrol". Wonderful that you got to see two of your favorites. Always fun when different genres come together like that. CMT does their Crossroads which pairs a country artist with someone not country. Like the one with Taylor Swift and Def Leppard. :D

Hahaha - if I went with something my husband would listen to, we would have wound up with Travis Tritt's T-R-O-U-B-L-E or something equally ridiculous! But you can't go wrong with Brad Paisley.

Because I heard Luke Combs' new song this morning and it gave me a bunny...

--

“Detective Reyes,” Elias purred, leaning his hands on the worn bar top. “Don’t tell me you’re back because you’re still fighting your feelings for your partner?”

Zayne made a face but sat on the nearest barstool anyway. “Shut it, Eli,” he snapped. “I’m here because I need a drink.”

“Good thing I have plenty to offer,” Eli joked. “What’s your poison tonight?”

His poison was currently a tall, dark-haired Romani boy, but that was neither here nor there because his asshole partner was too busy shacking up with his damn boyfriend. He hated how much it bothered him because Zeklos deserved to be happy. And the narco seemed to do exactly that.

“Zayne?”

He looked up at Eli and sighed. If anything, Elias would understand what Zayne was going through, having loved and lost Zeklos the same as he had. “Sorry,” he said. “Give me a beer.”

“Just a beer,” Eli asked, reaching for the Dos Equis he had stashed just below the bar. “You look like you could use something stronger.”

Yeah, like a good shot of Romanian moonshine with a chaser of Romani kisses but… no, that wasn’t exactly something he could say either. “Just a beer,” Zayne confirmed. “Beer never broke my heart.”

When Thomas Rhett played in Dublin a couple of years ago, he had Rhett Akins as his support act. (It was a small club venue, we were having a drink in the bar when they announced it over the Not fit for purpose PA system; only for my sister heard it too, I thought I was imagining things. Let’s just say sh** got lost on an epic scale!) He played an acoustic set, starting with “That Ain’t My Truck” which I think we were the only ones who knew it, and then did a lot of the songs that he’s written on. At the end of the TR set, he came out and they played “Parking Lot Party” together. It was amazing!

I am so jealous! I saw Rhett Akins back in the 90's with Reba and Tracy Byrd (and that alone probably tells you how long ago it was). Such a good show. And the ones in small bars/pubs are always the best!

I saw Reba back in the 90s when she toured here. Linda David was her backing singer and they did Does He Love You ... it was incredible! We saw Reba again a couple of years ago when she did the country to country festival, she’s still got it!
