Monday, Monday...

awesome Monday.jpg

Well, it's the Monday after the sadness and anger that happened in New Zealand on Friday, and there's a lot in the news today about gun laws and vigils and the deaths of the unfortunate 50 people that were killed by a terrorist in what should have been the safety of their Mosques. As a New Zealander I am shocked and saddened - and yes, angered too - that someone should be allowed to do something this scary and hateful in my own country.

I read through the list of the dead today (with photogrpahs of most of them and comments about who they were and where they were from) and all I can say is that the murderer clearly had no regard for who he was killing. The oldest was 71 and the youngest 3 years old. THREE, for goodness sake. All of them had stories of their different backgrounds; some born in NZ; many born in different countries around the world. They were all New Zealanders. We have lost some of our own. #WeAreAllOnePeople.

This will affect all of NZ, but we must not let the hatred win, and we will go on. Muslims - and all people who love others as themselves - will always be welcome here.

Anyway, now I have that said - not that I will forget in any hurry - let's do what we can to inspire love and friendship to all in our little comm. What will you do towards this in the week ahead? Whether it's words of love or graphics here at the comm, or something more important in real life, here's where you can tell me what you're planning!

Here are the reminders and other things you need to help kick you off for the week:

Let's care for each other out there, everyone, and let's make words!

Checking this before I go to sleep so I haven't done my writing for Monday. My current word count is 1,365. I'm 1500 words behind. I guess I know what I'll be doing today.

You will get there, I know it! Good luck!

Just a little bit behind, but I'll catch up.

You will, you will!!!

It's all so disheartening. And there was another shooting late last night/early this morning in the Netherlands. I just can't even understand why any longer. AND apparently some dumba$$ tried to rob a poker cage at the Bellagio here over the weekend, shot at Metro, and wound up getting himself killed by one of the officers who returned fire. It needs to stop.

ANYWAY. I'm a good 5k over where I need to be so YAY! I have a few days to catch up on with the monthly challenge, but am doing well with that, too.

Big hugs to everyone today.

I heard about the Netherlands - it's just sad and mystifying to me. Yuck to the idiot trying to rob the Bellagio!

YAY for you being ahead, and for doing so well with the monthly challenge!!! That is awesome!

Hugs right back to you and to everyone else here!

I know, the security in these casinos is insane. Don't know how he thought he could get away with that.

Thanks! I'm having fun with this month's challenge, too.

Have been thinking of you all - I know how shocking it can be when something like that happens close to home. :{ It's hard to reconcile how ugly and beautiful the world can be at the same time - and how little control we have over either of those things.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. - MLK Jr.

I like the flash challenge prompt. :)

I'm going to write and post my three sentence fics this week. Although, so far they're really three beat fics. I can't make myself boil things down that much, or abuse punctuation to get there, lol. I'm going to work on a wip and maybe another ficlet or two - will see how it shakes out! Plus I'm going to toss stuff and pack for my mid-April move to a new apartment (first move in 11 years, yikes) and also have my biggest week of half-marathon training with 24 miles total and 10 miles of that schedules for Saturday. :} Eeep.

Thank you for the words. That quote is so very apt. There is a husband of one of the shooting victims who is more or less saying the very same thing. He's offering love to the shooter and saying he must have had something very sad in his life to have done this. That is an amazing and wonderful attitude.

Yay! Hope you manage something for the flash challenge!

That's a lot to do - good luck with all the projects, and wow to moving - not exactly the funnest job, but hopefully you will get everything you need done and the move will be smooth and breakage-free! *hugs*

I have no words, and co-incidentally, I have no words.

I'm a bit behind, but not too bad. There were fun words this weekend so I'm happy about that.

I'm so sorry for what you and NZ are going through. It's been heartbreaking to read the stories. It saddens me that we live in a world with so much hatred.

You'll get there! Yay to fun words!

Thank you for the kind words. It saddens me too; I just hope we can learn from this and love rather than hate. Our gun laws will hopefully change to make this kind of thing harder for the haters to achieve.

I'm a little over 5000 and staying above water for a change.
Mar. 18th, 2019 11:08 pm (UTC)
WOOHOO! That's awesome to hear!

PS: did you get my email? Any interest in the weekend challenge? (It's OK to say no, but let me know when you can!)

*hugs* all around

It's hard to find the words to capture all the frustration that I feel with these terrible acts of violence that keep happening. We've just got to keep loving and hope it spreads, I guess.

This week, I get to go see some hockey and that generally puts me in a good frame of mind. And my youngest nephews will be coming over this weekend so that's a fun, exhausting time just waiting to happen.

I'm currently at 3856 words which is good. I'm hoping to overshoot a bit because next month my goal will be ridiculously low (I learned last year that writing and trying to watch 4 playoff games in an evening don't mix). I know I originally signed up for the weekend challenge and I'm willing to do another round or two if you need someone to step up.

Mar. 19th, 2019 12:51 am (UTC)
Thank you for all those hugs!

It really is a hard process, but I think you're right. Hopefully more people will start to realise that just as White Supremacists don't speak for all Christians, Isis and other extremists don't speak for all Muslims. I was just heartbroken reading about the lives of the people killed in Christchurch. Just ordinary people going about their daily business.

Yay for nephews, hockey and other things that put you in a good frame of mind! You're doing fantastically with the words - I hope you get enough to feel able to watch your playoffs (I'm not a sporting fan but I liken it to me wanting to go to four excellent concerts in a month!) without worrying you'll be behind by month end!

Thank you for that - I am scheduling you in for a couple more weekend challenges before the end of July, so hopefully they'll suit you. I'm just waiting to hear from one other person before I firm up the roster! Then I'll post it and everyone can let me know if they need to swap any weeks.
Mar. 20th, 2019 10:51 pm (UTC)
Do you think you would be able to do the weekend challenge this week, at all? No pressure, but it would help a lot while I get the schedule finalised.
Mar. 21st, 2019 12:16 am (UTC)
I'd be happy to do it.
Mar. 21st, 2019 12:46 am (UTC)
Thank you! That's wonderful! I should be able to get the schedule up soon, which will help us all, I know! I have been very remiss. ;-)
