WIP Push: Check in

Jan 2019-WIP-banner.jpg

How are you doing with your WIP, everyone who's joining me? Are the numbers adding up? Is the story making sense?

I am doing okay with my 'Mechanics' fic, although I'm not sure where it's headed! Ha! But that's not new for me. I'm about 8K in, I think (2K added this month), so here's hoping I can keep up the momentum and actually finish it.

Need some inspiration? I'm doing a photo challenge on FB currently, and today's prompt is 'HANDFUL', so see if that gives you something to be going on with on your WIP if it's useful.

I came into this weekend thinking I had 2 chapters and an epilogue to go.
One chapter split into 2 when I realized there are several continuity threads I have to tie together that I did not account for in my outline. So yesterday was a complete one chapter and start another day. 8.5k was a lot of words.
Today I'm trying to finish this chapter at least, to leave 1 and the epilogue to go...and darned 11th hour plot twist just typed itself into place. It shouldn't affect this book toooo much...but will certainly affect the next one.
I'm at 29k total this month atm...so like a week ahead of my count (which is good since I don't get much writing time during the week)
I expect I'll finish out the day between 33 and 36k...

I can probably work handful into the story...there's enough going on it has to fit somewhere ;)

Wow, that is a lot of words! Fantastic going, even with the additional twists and turns it's taking! Good luck with 'handful' - I'm pretty sure you'll get it in there!

and I did...but forgot to post so thanks for the reminder
Grabbing a handful of the man’s thick, curly hair, he tipped Haythem’s head back and flashed the ophthalight across the Founder’s eyes. Pupil dilation, iris color, the whites of his eyes, all looked good, normal. But for a moment, and just for a moment, Tamner swore that Haythem not only met his gaze but recognized him.
And though he contained the shock he felt in that instant, limiting his expression to his typical doctor-patient exam smile.
The man’s brain and body were adapting. Changing. Or else Tamner was operating on too much stress, too much caffeine, and not enough sleep.
After tonight, Kemway would be more secure. And tomorrow Tamner would devise a new regimen of tests to determine what, if anything, he had just seen.

Excellent use of the word! Well done! ;-)

this was not an anticipated plot twist...it just...happened...and now I have to adapt accordingly.
Even seemingly 'unresponsive' characters can screw up everything lol

Oops! Good luck!

Congrats on making some big progress!

I wrote about 700 words of dialogue yesterday. Now I need to think through the scene so I can try to fill i the setting. Sometimes when I'm stuck, just barreling through the dialogue helps.

I also re-read the only existing chapter of the WIP, and am reminded how short and spare it is - yet it seemed to get a good response. So I'm going to try to keep the chapters short and the exposition down - faster movement, less explanation, and hopefully that = finished WIP. :)

Thank you! I feel like I'm going into things further than I need to, but it's all helpful when you haven't written in a while, and I can always pare it back once I'm done.

Excellent! Good luck with making progress on the scene, and with keeping things spare enough to make it to month-end with a completed WIP!!!

You are doing great. :)

I've added over 500 words to my current WIP, so I'm stoked. My vacation is coming up, so hopefully I'll find time to finish it.

Amy and mine's round robin is going strong, and it has given me almost 2k in words.

I think I'm sitting at 4,441 words at the moment.

Thanks! I feel like I am making progress, and it's starting to come a bit easier, no matter how many words I manage!

That is great! Good luck finding time on vacation!

The round robin sounds like it's progressing well too! Fantastic!

And wonderful word count!

I'm glad to hear those two idiots are being useful for a change. Ah, vacation - something I wish I could actually take. Hahaha.

You're having a great month so far.

I've added almost 4000 words to my WIP in January so far. Most of what I am doing at the moment is fragments of scenes and rewriting stuff. Still trying to get into writing entirely new stuff and figuring it out. At least I'm getting some stuff down though.

That is a wonderful lot of words! If it's filling in scenes and making more sense of what you had, it's all great progress! Good luck with moving onto the new stuff when you can! ;-)

Today was a housework day. No WIP work done, but I did get a backlogged chore finished as well as made headway on tomorrow's work, so I'm content.

Tomorrow, Lord willing, I will be back on the writing train. It all depends on how I feel after the dentist fills my teeth tomorrow.

We all have those days to deal with, and if that gives you satisfaction, then that is a good thing! Tomorrow sounds like a plan, but eeek to the dentist - if that sways you from your writerly purpose, don't feel bad. There's another day after that, and we will be here to help encourage you! ;-)

I haven't touched my WIP since the last check in. *sigh* But another 700 words or so and I should be able to finish off this chapter. I'm hoping to get to it this afternoon.

Oh well... you're nearly at the end of the chapter though - I hope you get those words soon! *cheers you on*
Jan. 15th, 2019 01:59 pm (UTC)
I did manage to finish the chapter with 740 words, so thanks! :)
