January Challenge: WIP Push

I know it's the beginning of the year; a time when people often want to start something new, but it can also be a quiet time; a good time to finish off things that have been lurking in your WIP folder!

So if, like me, you want to get some things finished before you get into any 'new' challenges this year, then drag them out and get writing along with me.

I found a great image to symbolise this month's challenge too - I love the idea of this being about a 'hot' WIP, whether it's steamy in a sexy way, or making your characters sweat in other ways, or perhaps the words are just so hot that they're pouring out of your brain and onto the page for you!

Let me know here if you're joining me this month, and if there's anything you need to make sure you get something finished, or at least progressed!

As for me, I've picked my old Mechanics sequel to work on, and today I kicked it off by reading through what I had so far, editing a bit along the way, and by adding 269 new words to it, which might not sound like much, but for me it's awesome, because I haven't written a word since last March, so I'm feeling really good about this, and about working towards getting it finished this month!

So what I need from you guys is a bit of encouragement as I go, and also for as many of you to join me as possible. Whether we finish our WIPs or not, as long as we're progressing, then that's a good thing! And it's all words to count, right?

And I'll be checking in again with you in a few days to see how you're going, and offer up some prompts if that will help anyone move ahead!

I want to add words to a Power Rangers AU this month and hopefully finish and post it this year. It goes into some dark places, so it's not always an easy write.

Yay! Go you, easy write or no. The darker fics are usually the most fulfilling somehow. Good luck! ;-)

I'm in. I have an SoJ to finish plus a few sequels to flesh out.
Jan. 2nd, 2019 07:51 am (UTC)
Excellent! Good luck with all of it! ;-)

My goal for January IS to complete this WIP...which was started for NaNo and has maybe 6 more chapters to go (hopefully one less by the end of the day and then one or two more this weekend).
Todays goal is also to include those last 4 random words ;)

I'm totally up for encouraging ya'll...and to kick around brainstorming bits if need be.

Sounds like an (easy?) excellent goal for you! Good luck, and thank you - I may need the brainstorming, and I definitely need the encouragement! I've just added a few more words tonight, so all going to plan!

I'm in! My writing resolution is to finish a WIP that I started last year. Hopefully it won't take all year to do it though!

It currently have about 13.5k. It's the sequel to a fic I posted last year, but I haven't written anything on it since like September. I recently reread the first fic and what I have of the second. My goal for the month is to edit what I had, get refocused, and add 5000 words.
Jan. 2nd, 2019 07:53 am (UTC)
Go you! That is a great goal to aim for! You can do it, too! I won't even tell you how old my fic is, ha! ;-)

Excuse me while I laugh as our company actually has a hot work permit. I swear, I deal with the darn fire department more than I deal with anything some days.

Er, shutting the construction nerd off for a moment. I have one WIP I've been working on for a couple months that should be finished in a few chapters. Plus another that I really have no idea where it's going. So, I'll stick with those two for now.

HA! I should have known!!!

And that sounds like an excellent plan! Keep at them, and if you need to brainstorm or anything, you know we're here to help! ;-)

I've got a story on A03 that I am currently writing chapter by chapter, so it's technically a WIP. This will help keep me on it!
Jan. 2nd, 2019 07:55 am (UTC)
Yes! Absolutely! And we're here for any help you may need! ;-)

I have a few WIP's to choose from but if I can get inspired to finish one, even if it ends up being only a couple of thousand words that would be one less WIP and that would be awesome. Although to choose one I may have to use the eeny, meeny, miny moe method.
Jan. 2nd, 2019 07:57 am (UTC)
Well, eeny meeny something if you have to, and even if you don't get all the way on one thing, at least we hope to help you add words to something! You can do it! ;-)

I was going back and forth on this. I have one small thing that I'd like to finish and have wanted to for a while. I stumbled on a single page of writing in one of my notebooks that I wrote for it when I was cleaning yesterday, so I think that's a sign that I need to finish it this month.
Jan. 2nd, 2019 09:06 pm (UTC)
YES! Sounds perfect. I look forward to hearing how you're doing with it! ;-)
Jan. 2nd, 2019 01:26 pm (UTC)
I'm in! Gonna tip my toe back into this writing thing by working on a bare-bones-draft of a SGU story for smallfandomfest. Wish me luck!
Jan. 2nd, 2019 09:06 pm (UTC)
Brilliant! Good on you! Lots of luck! ;-)
Jan. 2nd, 2019 03:12 pm (UTC)
Count me in, too! I had a sudden idea of how to both simplify and how to end a WIP that i've really wanted to pick up. For me, that can be half the battle with a WIP- taking that 'huge mountain lurking on the horizon' feeling out of it, and making it more attainable. I realllllly need to write shorter fic again this year- the 10k and 20k stuff is part of what wore me down in the last year and a half, I think.

Good luck with your WIP! Let's see if we can all end January with a satisfying story fully told. :}
Jan. 2nd, 2019 09:08 pm (UTC)
Great! I'm so pleased you made it over a hump, and have ideas to help get things finished. I absolutely know what you mean! All of my WIPs seem to be way too enormous for their (and my!) own good, but I'm determined to crack on with them.

Thank you! Let's hope you're right! ;-)

I have so many WIPs I don't even know where to start, but the theme actually helps me narrow it down. This is also perfect, because I wanted to focus more on WIPs this year :D
Jan. 6th, 2019 09:03 am (UTC)
Brilliant! I'm sure it will be helpful for a few of us to focus on WIPs a couple of times this year! Good luck!
Jan. 8th, 2019 07:10 am (UTC)
Finished one of my three WIPs.
Jan. 8th, 2019 07:21 pm (UTC)
Wonderful! You are doing well! Good luck with the next one, if you're going there? You still have plenty of month left! ;-)
Jan. 12th, 2019 06:08 am (UTC)
I have this whole McDanno 90s songfic list that I have been working on forever it seems and I really need to get in gear and finish! Literally hundreds thanks to the 90s xm channel of inspiration as I like to call it.
Jan. 13th, 2019 07:16 pm (UTC)
Yes, do it! We're here for inspiration or help!
