Wonderful World of Wednesday

Be sure to turn in your numbers

"I read the 'Old Testament' all the way through when I was about 13 and was horrified. A few months afterwards I read 'The Origin Of Species', hallucinating very mildly because I was in bed with flu at the time. Despite that, or because of that, it all made perfect sense."

~ Terry Pratchett ~

My household has the flu… I feel like this cat looks.

Tis the season.

Did you know?

In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt was shot just before giving a speech. He began with: “Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose. Fortunately I had my manuscript – I was going to make a long speech – and there is where the bullet went through, and it probably saved me from it going into my heart. The bullet is in me now, so that I cannot make a very long speech, but I will try my best…” then kept talking for 1.5 hours before finally agreeing to seek medical attention.

Oh no, I hope you are all feeling better soon!

And that's an interesting tidbit about Teddy Roosevelt, don't think I ever heard that before.

Firstly: get better soon!

Secondly: I LOVE TERRY PRATCHETT. He was genius; second only to Douglas Adams.

Wow, some fact about Teddy! What a guy!

Great vid! ;-)

I did NOT know that about Teddy, but I'm also not surprised! :) Duly impressed, yes, but not surprised, not out of him, one of the best Presidents we've ever had!

Thanks for sharing that golden nugget, and I hope you all feel much better soon, the kitty included!! ;)

did manage to work in the concept of reflection in a short RP bit I did today...finally got a prompt worked into something lol.
On the surface, at least, David appeared to be the only one not suffering the consequences of an extended stay on the astral plane…or the effects of the magic used to bring them all home. He did not feel tired, and though he sat in the kitchen devouring a plate of waffles, and his mind was awhirl with silent reflections of where he had been and how he gotten there, he was not yet giving any consideration to the things that had been done…by him, or at least his body, while he was trapped in that other place. Farouk may have taken his body for a spin, but David was in charge now, in control, and he was determined that was not going to happen again.

Not so long as this ring remained on his hand.

He was tempted to remove it, to see just what would happen, to see if John’s words were true, but as he was fully aware that voice prompting him to experiment could be Farouk’s, he chose to ignore it. His experience with mental illness had taught him that going off of one’s meds because they were ‘all better’ was the most dangerous illusion of all. This ring was his new mental health regime. If he stuck to it, everything would be okay.

He could admit, however, to feeling a strange sense of emptiness inside, in the place where Farouk had been. He had been in there, feeding off of David for so long, interacting with his shifting reality, that it felt a little like losing a friend…or a sibling…and David was not sure what to do with that feeling. How was he to fill that void?

It would not be as easily filled as his stomach. But maybe, once Tamara recovered, he could talk to her, as they had not yet been able to talk. If he was lucky, maybe she would help him fill that void, and between her and John and Kavan, he might even learn how to use the gifts he had been given.

They were there to be used, after all. What was the point of being the creator of worlds if he could not use them?
