Thanksgiving Weekend Challenge

Yesterday, we Americans celebrated Thanksgiving, so I pulled together a list of 89 words that are somehow related to the holiday. Rest assured that these also work for other occasions and the results can totally be non-Thanksgiving. Who knows? They might even inspire a time travel fic or something. ;) But choose your poison, or poisons, from 1 - 89 and I'll get back to you as soon as I can with the results!

I'm all for giving rewards, but you probably won't get your prizes until the new year -- just the way life's being right now. But for prizes, I'm happy to give out banners, drabbles (while reserving the right to make them longer should the Muses strike), icons, or sig tags. Drabbles ARE limited to the characters I write, but there are TONS of those -- just check my tags if you're unsure. :)

Good luck to all!

Your magic word is Thanksgiving itself, but you can still twist it if you choose. Thanks giving, or giving thanks, will also be accepted with gladness and earn you a reward. :)

Gobble! This can be the gobbling of a turkey (or another animal?) or it can refer to gobbling down food -- or anything else you can think of that someone might "gobble" down. Good luck! :)

surprisingly, I got all three words into the opening sentence of this RP bit. Rain and Rafe are both originals, so nothing to spoil...
The sweet bouquet of warm pecan syrup made the voyage home worth it, although the weather delay at his originating airport meant that Rain’s return to Tigh Ard was delayed by a day. He had intended to be home last night, to be there for the ritual that was meant to bring Tamara home, but he had missed it by hours, coming through the front door, weary and disheveled, not long after the participants returned to the house from the cliffside chapel. He had been overjoyed to see the woman in Carl’s arms, to know she had been brought back from wherever she had been.

They might be siblings by the virtue of his father being her step father through marriage, but his love for her was anything but brotherly.

It was why he had gone away, why he allowed his long list of business endeavors to draw him out of Tigh Ard when she had disappeared. There was nothing he could do to bring her back except pray, although secretly he hoped that, in all of his travels, he would find some secret, a person or object, that would help towards that end. And with the changes in Carl’s behavior during those long months…well, Rain suspected he and Carl would have come to blows eventually over the way the man treated the memory of his missing wife. Rain would never have done such a thing to someone he loved. He would never dream of treating anyone as an unimportant discard. He had been brought up to respect those who were important to him.

And because he did not believe Tamara would approve of any action he might take against her husband…even if out of respect for her honor…whenever she did return, Rain had thought it wiser to go.

The hope he had brought home with him was trudging up the stairs behind him, a blonde man equally weary from a long flight.

“That her?”

Rain nodded. “It is. Looks like you made the trip for nothing…”

The blonde looked around them at the size of the entrance hall, the stone, the polished wood, the massiveness and delicate detail of everything he could see. “Are you kidding? It was worth the trip just to see this. Been a long time since I’ve seen something like this that wasn’t part of a museum…”

“Kinda feels like a museum at times…until the nudity kicks in.”

“Nudity…? Oh…right…Clan.” He was not Clan himself, but he knew of them. He knew a lot about a lot of things.

It was why Rain had hoped he would have the answers they no longer appeared to need.

“Well, you’re certainly welcome to make yourself at home for a spell…meet her…enjoy the sights. Spend Christmas with us. Better than being alone, right?”

He watched the other man’s face darken, the corners of his mouth and eyes twitch, as fleeting thoughts pushed across the surface of his mind. He had known Rafe Heiser his whole life, or at least most of it, through all of the days of school adventures and dating and the subsequent years of adulthood that came after. Their life paths had taken them in slightly differing directions, but brought their paths together often enough that they had kept up with each other’s lives. Rain knew the bust up of Rafe’s last relationship had left gaping scars across the man’s heart and soul. Inviting him to Tigh Ard, to make use of his knowledge, had been as much for Rafe as it had been for Tamara. She might not need him here now, but Rafe needed the distraction. Rain was happy to offer it.

“If you’re sure it’s no imposition…”

“Now that she’s home…no, it won’t be.” Carl would be just as likely to turn out a guest in the mood he had been in of late. If they were lucky, Tamara’s return would temper her husband’s erratic behavior. If not…well, Rain knew she welcomed guests. She would like Rafe. Rain knew that already. She would welcome another face for the holidays…whether Carl did nor not.

“Come on…you can share my room. We’ll drop off your things and I’ll give you the penny tour.”

By then it would be dinner time…and maybe he could make introductions then.
