I admit, I actually 'touchdowned' to read that. Ood are my absolute favorite :D
I'm thinking I need to bring one into my roleplay!

pt 1:
They had wanted her to fight.
She had, briefly, thought she would. She was good at it, and if anyone stood a chance of winning against the usurpers, it would be River Tam.
But then had come that unrelenting sound.
Singing. In her head.
River did not know why no one else heard it, why it seemed only she did, but she knew she often heard a lot of things that other people did not, voices and thoughts of others that screamed loud within her skull and hurt her head to hear them.
Most of the time, she kept that knowing to herself. Most of the time, she was not entirely sure that what she heard was real. And people did not like others hearing their thoughts, revealing their secrets.
And so gradually River had learned to keep those things to herself and to shut those voices away behind a locked door in her head to wither and die in a silent, unmarked tomb of unaccessed memory.
But the singing…it was different. At first a song of home, of going, of reunification and welcome, a song passing through the ether on the distant fringes of her perception. Then had come the blinding, a flash and a hundred silent screams. Some fleeing, the voices retreating in panicked haste, others struggling, bubbling…and then silence. Only one remained, a thing in pain, a thing lost and injured and alone, a singular voice which had somehow become separated from its others, abandoned. Left behind. Misplaced or willfully cast off.
The voice had pounded at her head all through the early morning hours, before the sun crested the horizon, calling the others back, bidding everyone to hear but gradually fading, weakening, into spluttering bursts of incoherent pleas that became fewer and more distant between.
And no one else heard.
But River did.

She followed some wordless sense of direction to the rocky coastline, when the tide was at its lowest, exposing jagged hazards and things left behind in shallow tide pools to await the return of the sea or else shrivel and die in the heat of the day’s encroaching sun. Barefoot she picked her way through the hazards, barely noticing them, unfazed by sharp stones and shells and clinging tendrils of sea plants washed deposited by the retreating waves. Not knowing what she expected to find, she was surprised to see the newcomer there, the man with the quiet head and gentle smile who had, she believed, fallen from the sky…
…just as Xas and Gabriel had done.
She did not believe in angels. She did not believe in a god, or goddess, or anything one might considered divine. But she recognized difference when she saw it, recognized something that came from out there…beyond…
Beyond whatever there was behind the sky.
Such a thing lay before the squatting man, a thing in a ripped and salt-drenched robe, a thing unresponsive to the hand that covered his, a thing the sea had left just as surely as it had been left by its own kind.
Its eyes were closed but the tentacles that graced the lower half of its face quivered in time to the shallow rise and fall of its chest. Lacerations stretched over visible skin like the claws of some beast had left them there, and a sickly pale fluid, viscous and pink, oozed from them.
Blood, River knew, even if it was not red like her own.
“You heard the song.”
“I did,” the tall man said with a sorrowful nod, looking from the woman who had joined him to the creature he had found.
“Dying?”
He shook his head, though his expression did not give her hope. “He should be brought inside.”
“I can carry him.” River never questioned her strength, or another’s. It did not occur to her to ask why he had not lifted the frail-looking creature its bed of sand and rock, to wonder if he could not, or if he had been waiting here specifically for her to come. She did not ponder if he would have brought the thing up from the shore, up the path towards the open greenhouse door, if she had not come.
To River, that song had been a summons to her for help. And help she would.
The thing was unconscious, but it held a gelatinous orb clutched protectively between its hands, even in its state of sleep, and the man she had heard was called Conrael walked beside them with his hand resting lightly over those protective ones, perhaps soothing, perhaps a shield, perhaps communicating in a way River could not hear.
Left by its kind, presumed dead. But for now, very much alive. River intended to keep it that way.
In the warmth of the greenhouse, the compulsion to fight was gone, displaced by the desire to provide care for this lonely, homeless soul.
As she set to the task, Conrael stepped back to watch with a satisfied expression creeping in around the corners of his concern.
River would not fight.
And that was a good thing.
“Don’t look at me,” muttered Livetta. “I’m not going to strap myself to somebody’s lap-dancing bear just to run this shit-show of a family…” Vampire or not, regardless of any loyalty felt to the Laird of the House, she was beginning to feel that Carl was dancing to West’s tune…not the other way around…and that the man had become merely a pawn for whatever shenanigans that woman had on her mind. Livetta, first born of her fathers, was, some said, their strongest fledgling, but she had no desire to fight anyone…nor to be in charge of the House. That would put her in direct opposition to the Coven’s leader, her own father. The position didn’t interest her at all. Rock and roll did.
“Faith?” Lesta asked hopefully. Odd, she still thought, that the Slayer still fit right in with Lesta and her sister, but it was a friendship she no longer questioned.
The dark haired woman shook her head. “Nope. I hate myself already for letting this happen…nothing I can do to change it…”
“But he listens to you…”
“Used to listen to me. I don’t even think he knows I’m around now…unless he’s looking for a shag because his side bits aren’t available.” Once she’d been more than happy to give Carl a shag. Who wouldn’t be? The Laird of the House was HOT. But lately he’d become quite an egotistical prick with a grating attitude and Faith had to draw the line somewhere. It was probably part of the reason Carl no longer sought her out. Which was just as well…but sometimes she wondered if she should set her feelings aside and try to lure Carl away from West and Dany in some other way…using the best tool she had.
Then again, she didn’t know what Dany or West were like in bed. Maybe she could not compete with them.
Maybe she ought to consider shagging one or both of them too…for the sake of research…for the sake of the family.
Jessie wouldn’t be happy about that though, and to be honest, the thought didn’t appeal to Faith very much.
Lesta kicked the hapless chair, accidently snapping the wooden leg in two with the force of the gesture. “Well someone has to,” she muttered. “Otherwise its going to be one of THEM by default…”
“Don’t rule Johnny out yet,” Faith said. “He’ll get her back. You’ll see…”
“And if he doesn’t?” murmured Livetta.
“He will.”
Given Carl’s current state of mind, however, Faith wasn’t entirely sure Tamara’s return was going to be any better…for any of them.
Hit me with a tag and a quote from any Doctor. I'd say I don't watch but I don't want to get things thrown in my general direction. :D (I have watched Torchwood though so not sure if that lessens the stigma any or not.)

I have no favorite quote from the 13th Doctor (newest Doctor) because so far we only got Trailers / 1 word in last Christmas Special. (Episodes will be out either September or October - that's what I know from the rumors. :D)
