Monday Again!

Is it just me or is this year flying by at a rapid pace?  School’s getting ready to start here in a little over a week.  It feels like they only just got out for summer break.  My kid is not happy, to say the least!  The other is having mixed feelings as she’s starting college at the end of the month.  Someone send help.  I’m going to need it.

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: university.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

3. Big Buddy 16%!  How are you doing?  I have a bunch of writing scattered between two journals at the moment.  I probably ought to count them eventually.  Hah.

asphaltcowgrrl – 2,400
agdhani – 4,960
simplyn2deep - 3
sharpiesgal - 320
cmk418 - 800
flipflop_diva - 800
katleept – 4,960
kaige68 - 800

If you still want to, you can sign up for August here!  Additional note: You can sign up for the Daily Count Challenge here as well.

4. Our August challenge is August Rush!  Since the challenge hasn’t officially started as of my writing this, go check the tag because it starts today, August 6!

Let’s hear it for another great week!  What plans do you have to make it an awesome one?  I plan on not acquiring any more books so I can spend less time reading and more time writing.  And should this ever happen, please contact Sam, Dean, and Cas because the Apocalypse is on its way.  Let us know how last week was and what you’ve got on the radar for this week.

Happy Monday y’all!

The boys are bugging me, so I might get more words this week. It's been fun playing with them. ;)

They tend to do that, the jerks. :D But I'm glad you've been enjoying yourself. And hey, if we can help you hit your goal? All the better.

Yes, they are jerks. :)
Aug. 6th, 2018 01:05 pm (UTC)
But we love them anyway. :D Sometimes. Mostly.

The fires are still going...making life very smokey, and some areas of homes are still at risk. Last I saw it was 55 homes destroyed, but that was early yesterday I think, so I don't know what the number is now. It's pushing north and east into neighboring counties, but the southern fringe is still hitting us...we're now the biggest fire in the state :/
But not going out all weekend to avoid the smoke meant a concentration of effort on editing and note taking...which I did in between fire monitoring...so I finished the read through, moved a few days ahead in my count, and now have to decide on another project...or focus on NaNo prep. Seems early for that, but I've got a lot to do (it feels like) to have a cohesive plan in place. Can only pants it so much lol.
But hey, I'm surviving and I still have my home...so I can't complain toooo much...

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about the fires. A friend of mine had to evacuate herself and all her animals. They're back home now, but man, that's terrifying to think about. Glad that you're okay and safe and putting your time to good use!

UGH!! I had such plans to write! SUCH PLANS!!
And then I got insanely hooked on a reading a book series - and yes I was reading book two until almost midnight. So no words were written, I'm blaming you, which I'm is a legitimate blame and not at all just saying I blame you.
I'm hoping to get some words done this afternoon and make some progress on that M7 fic.

IT'S GONNA BE AN AWESOME WEEK - Even if it's just a week of reading 6 cowboy romances! And OMG I adore the heroine in #2!
Aug. 6th, 2018 01:47 pm (UTC)
I will happily take the blame for that! Especially since I'm the reason you have the book! I plan on starting it today.

Call it research, putting you in a cowboy frame of mind!

IT WILL BE AN AWESOME WEEK! And cowboys only make it better.

Cowboys do make things better, but the fic is supposed to be contemp AU so ... IDK about it being research.

It is funny how M7 the book is with the 'diverse ethnicity' of the men. I laugh quite a bit.

Now I need to get my brain into the fic and out of the book.

ALSO - I am loving DuoLingo!!!

Well... I mean, SURE but I was trying to let you off the hook for reading and not writing. :)

I love it! So often a book says, "If you love..." and it's nothing like what it says.

Go! You can do it! I'll be here if you need me.

SCORE! Muy bien!

Alrighty, with my new track in mind I am now at 1003 words! I'm on schedule!

I just did 10 graphics for today's August Rush.

I've obviously underestimated the number of graphics I would make this month, but that's okay. It's something to do.
Aug. 6th, 2018 09:43 pm (UTC)
Awesome! And it's all good. Just think how accomplished you'll feel at the end of the month!
Aug. 6th, 2018 10:27 pm (UTC)
I'd like to think of it as making up for not writing during the month of June
Aug. 6th, 2018 10:34 pm (UTC)
Like I told H, as long as you're happy and creating, it all counts. If we could only figure out how to make stitches and cookies count towards our word goals, we'd all be set. :)

I'm a bit off the goal, but if all the August Rush prompts are as provocative as today's I think I should catch up fairly soon.

The year is flying by. We were discussing last night how a year when you are 4 is a quarter of your life, but when you're 40 (or 48 going on 49) that percentage is less and less which gives the illusion that it's going faster than it is.

I have a slight vacation from work at the end of this week. I'm taking off Friday, Monday & Tuesday and making it a 5-day weekend to celebrate my birthday. I might actually get a little sleep in there too!

Have fun getting the kids off to school and good luck with the writing (and reading!)

That's the beauty of August Rush - it's so easy to make up for what you're lacking. Good luck!

That's a good way of looking at it. And it's true because everything takes forever when you're a kid.

Oh, enjoy your time off! And happy early birthday!

Thanks - my 16-year-old is taking it better than expected, so that's a plus. My 18-year-old can fend for herself. Hahaha. Writing is going well and the reading is always great. :D

It's my birthday next week too, so I'm celebrating with you (and we won't discuss how much older I am than the figures you mention... :D). HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a fun long weekend!

I've had a busy start to the week so it's already Wednesday... I had to present some stuff for a group of people at work yesterday, and have another group to present it to today (so easier as all the prep is already done), but today I have a SECOND presentation (to our own staff thankfully, so not so tricky, I think...), so I've spent a lot of time in prep, rather than my usual work (a nice change), but then a bunch of stuff that suddenly landed on my desk also needs shifting, so I've been a bit swamped, but hopefully will be back on track fully by tomorrow.

Home-wise, I went swimming with two of my kids on Monday night - something we haven't done in what feels like aeons - which was good, as I'm badly in need of more exercise, so hopefully we'll make it a regular thing. Monday evenings seems good at the pool too, because it was quiet! No waterslide or waves (my son likes them), but having fewer people around (we used to go Fridays and it was always busy) more than made up for that, I think.

So this week's creativity? I think I shall get on with some August Rush icons! I will already have to catch up, but there's plenty of time, so no problem! ;-)

Yikes, they've been keeping you hopping this week, haven't they? But like I always say, a full desk is job security. Sort of. :)

Ah, that sounds like a lot of fun. When we lived with my in-laws, I used to take my older girl into the pool every night. She was just a baby, but it was a nice bonding thing for us.

You can do it! And you're right, there's a ton of time left!
