Say What Friday

Greetings word warriors!

Sorry I'm late with this, but it has been one of those weeks.

Hopefully, everyone has survived with their sanity relatively intact.

This week's quote comes from two of my favorite philosphers, Mark Twain and Jimmy Buffett.

"Be good and you will be lonesome. Be lonesome and you will be free."

Do with it what you will.

Remember August Rush begins Monday.

Not sure the whole thing will fit here...so forced to make a snippet.
No spoilers or warning necessary; told from the POV of the angel Xas from The Vintner's Luck, in my RP world.

**
Was it punishment for not standing with the ‘good’ that had banished him to an eternity amongst mortals, or was it something else, some hint of a divine plan or else some softening and concession on God’s part that imbued Conrael with a path among men that only he knew? Xas remembered how the heavens had wept that day, a darkness spreading that was outdone only by the day the God-son was set to die a mortal death.

The Creator had mourned Conrael’s choice…and yet he had allowed it anyhow, shutting the gates of heaven to the Fallen…and to the one who wandered his path alone.

“Why,” he had asked. “Why do you not join us? Why do you give up everything…for them?”

Conrael had only looked at him with a melancholy, loving expression that had suggested that someday he would understand.

To this day, Xas never had.

Xas remembered Conrael there upon the mountain top, his face shielded with one hand as he watched the light of heaven disappear behind the pale silver of the earthly moon. He stood alone, a good ‘man’…but a lonesome one surely as both the Hosts and the Fallen turned their backs on him. In that loneliness, however, he was the only one of their kind who was truly free. Free to follow a path he had chosen, beholden to none but his own conscience and destiny. Bound neither by God’s tight grasp or Lucifer’s manipulated hold.

It was that freedom, that faith in the rightness of his goal, that Xas envied. That Xas feared.
