First Monday of the Month!

Happy July!  The best of all months as far as I’m concerned.  But what do I know, right?  I’ve been told I’m a freak of nature because I love the dry, desert heat we have here.   Despite the heat, things are going well here and I’m ready for the second half of the year to start.

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: fireworks.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

3. Big Buddy 2%!  How are you doing?  It’s the beginning of the month, let’s make this a good one!

asphaltcowgrrl - 300
sharpiesgal - 40
agdhani - 1,000
cmk418 - 100
katleept - 620
captainamergirl - 80
flipflop_diva - 200
csichick_2 - 500

If you still want to, you can sign up for July here!  Additional note: You can sign up for the Daily Count Challenge here as well.

4. Our July challenge is the ever popular Pool Party!  Right now, Kaige is taking fandom requests.  You can find the first two here and here (as I’m prepping this on Sunday, I don’t have Monday’s yet, but you can always check the tag, too).

5. Calls for NaNoCamp are out as well and you can find it here.

Happy 4th of July if you’re in the US.  If you’re English then I’m sorry.  Hahaha.  For everyone else, let’s make this an awesome week!

I am right there with you on the dry desert heat... although it's currently just a tad cool here in mid-winter NZ! We got down to single digits Celsius the other night, which is cold enough for this cold-blooded woman!

I really need to get onto the words this month, as I am soooo behind. I'm sure I could find something to jump in the pool with for July (even if swimming is the last thing I'm thinking about right now!).

And knitting. I am at peggy square # 13 for the blanket I'm making and still going strong!!!

Hot and dry, I can do. Hot and humid? I'm out. Hahaha. Oh lord, no. I can't handle that kind of cold. And I don't care if it's degrees C, F, or K.

You can do it! I know you can. :)

Awesome, good luck with your blanket! Sometimes I feel like I should take up knitting since I often feel like I'm the only one who doesn't. :D

OH ME TOO! It's unfortunate that I live in one of those places that is usually humid when it's hot. DAMMIT. I don't like this cold either, but at least today the sun is out, which makes up for it. It's so much better to be cold and sunny than cold and wet like we so often are... that humidity turns to damp so very often once winter hits, and I don't think I could stand another 4 months of rain like we had last winter.

THANKS! I am gonna try. I just had an idea for a fandom to tackle for Pool Party so *clinks glasses* here's to words!

Thanks! You should! Make a blanket (or better yet, start with a scarf or something straight and easy like that), but I'd suggest you wait till the weather's cooler where you are. Knitting's a bitch in the heat! (I need a knitting icon!)

We generally sit somewhere between 7-15% humidity. Anything more than that I don't like. How I survived living in Houston, I'll never know. YES! The sun makes all the difference, honestly. That's another thing about Vegas - there is generally very little cloud cover so, no matter the season, you get plenty of sunshine.

I know you can do this! I'm excited! Good luck. :)

ROFL at 'make something straight'. I can't make anything straight - not even with a ruler. :D
Jul. 4th, 2018 03:47 am (UTC)
LOL! Well, practice knitting peggy squares to start if you decide to pick it up; once you get the hang of them and your knitting tension is even you'll manage something, straight or not!
Jul. 4th, 2018 03:29 pm (UTC)
Good to know! But like I told Sharpie, I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to pick up a hobby that involves a weapon (or potentially so). Hah!

HA! :D

I am so excited about the pool party, especially where I WROTE MORE LAST MONTH THAN I DID LAST YEAR! Of course it's the only thing I've written all year, but I'm still excited.

And I am psyched for the Pool Party! I watched Stratton last week and was so excited about slash for it and found there IS ONE FIC! So, there will be some slash this month!

Jul. 2nd, 2018 01:27 pm (UTC)
I am, too! I often have a hard time finding a fandom, but it's always fun.

WOOHOO - and it's been great to read, too.

I've never even heard of Stratton, so I'm going to have to look for that now.

WELCOME (and let's not mention the fact that I almost forgot, hah!)

It was not the best movie in the world, but the opening 20 min... I want them to ...
Well, you know me.
Jul. 2nd, 2018 03:05 pm (UTC)
HAHAHAHA. It's all good. I've watched movies for less. :)

Smoke...more smoke...never ending smoke it seems :/

We've got a 5 day weekend this week though, which is good so long as the smoke can start to clear.

We'll see how much editing I can get done in 5 days...and words too :)
Jul. 2nd, 2018 04:33 pm (UTC)
Ugh on all the smoke.

Hooray for the extra-long weekend, and here's to hoping the smoke clears soon.

Good luck!

I had a scene for a pool party fic pop into my head while I was in the loo. Could I get down on paper? No.... damn finicky bunny.

If someone is handing out cooler weather, I'll take some.
Jul. 2nd, 2018 04:41 pm (UTC)
That happens to me a lot when I'm either in the shower or driving.

Yeah, nothing cooler out this way. You might want to hit H up, sounds like she's ready to get rid of the cold!
Jul. 2nd, 2018 05:47 pm (UTC)
It's frustrating because I think it will be a really good story.

I don't think H would like my humidity, so I'm stuck dealing with it until September.

Take up crocheting. You don't have to count stitches all the time.
Jul. 2nd, 2018 05:59 pm (UTC)
Hopefully it'll come back to you because that is both frustrating and annoying.

Hahaha - she lives on an island so she might be used to it? Probably not that level of heat, though.

I'm not sure I'll be allowed to start any hobby that involves what could become a weapon. :D
Jul. 2nd, 2018 06:17 pm (UTC)
I'm hoping it does.

Probably so.

Knitting needles are pointier than a crochet hook, but it might safer for you to stick with books since the bail money is non-existent at the moment.
Jul. 2nd, 2018 06:29 pm (UTC)
I've got my fingers crossed for you. :D

Hah - today I could turn anything into a weapon given a chance. The ginger closest to me is on my last nerve.

Haven't started writing yet this month, but I have some ideas for things I want to work on.

While you're enjoying July (and I'll agree that the dry desert heat is better than our steam room weather in the Midwest), I am ready for October. Considering how the first half of the year went, it'll be here before I know it.

I find the pool party challenge intriguing, but I'm trying to pick a fandom that I like enough to write about as well as one where I'm content devoting a bit of time to delve back into canon. I don't watch a lot of tv (and I've dipped my toes into various waters enough to have written at least one drabble on most of them). So we'll see what comes of it.

Have a wonderful Fourth!
Jul. 3rd, 2018 04:53 pm (UTC)
We're only three days in, you have plenty of time!

Ugh, I'm from Illinois originally and have lived in Houston - I DO NOT LIKE HUMIDITY. I don't blame you for wanting cooler temps though.

I tend to have that problem, too. I'm thinking I might make some icons instead of writing anything this year. But whatever you do, have fun with it! But you never know, maybe something will inspire you.
