Weekend Challenge: Talkin' Like a Tough Guy

I know this is the last weekend in March and it's also Easter weekend and I should be doing something springy but I decided that was too cliche, so instead, we're going with some tough guy prompts, but not just any tough guys but my personal favorite: the world weary private investigator--WOO HOO!!

I chose these awesomely badass lines from fiction's toughest private detectives out there:  Sam Spade, Phiilip Marlowe, Nick Charles and Boston Blackie.

Choose a number between 1 and 25 and I will give you an epically badass line.  For example, this line was spoken to a man headed for the electric chair: "You're gonna sizzle like a squab in a pan."  See what I mean by a tough guy :):)

I hope this craziness inspires you, so please be
as creative as you can--drabbles/fics can be as long as you want but at least 200 words and you can do any sort of art work the spirit moves you    Just post your work by Thursday night at 11:59pm EST, and you'll be golden.  Lastly, HAVE FUN!!!

probably won't have much writing time until I'm home on Thursday...but as I do love to horde prompts, hit me up with a 15 :)

I'm glad you're takin' a chance:):)

15. “The streets were dark with something more then night.”

Good luck :)

snippet that I used this prompt for...in combination with some other prompts...there's more to the writing effort, but its too long to fit here.

There were still in a graveyard when she dared to crack open her lids after the thundering of her heart had slowed and her breathing came easy once again. Instead of that darkness that had housed something blacker than night, or the firefly bespeckled crimson that had followed, the damp, clean air shimmered with the pink of long-limbed cherry blossoms, the emerald of perfectly manicured lawn and hedges, and well-kept white marbled stones that extended down both sides of the wet path glistening with after shower dew. No names, no indicator of who was buried here, but with the sound of his voice, welcoming though slightly unsure and embarrassed, erased the need to know. Everything else faded away as it was absorbed by the blue of his eyes.

I'm sorry I missed replying the first time you posted this--I like how atmospheric this is--graveyards will do that to me :):)

Did I tell you I have a massive crush on Chester Morris? I can't remember anymore.
Mar. 30th, 2018 07:23 pm (UTC)
Who doesn't love Boston Blackie :) Your quote is from Sam Spade if that's okay:)

17. "My guess might be excellent or it might be crummy, but Mrs. Spade didn't raise any children dippy enough to make guesses in front of a district attorney, an assistant district attorney, and a stenographer."
Mar. 30th, 2018 07:33 pm (UTC)
Absolutely okay. I love 'em all!

Also: PFFT. I can hear it..
Mar. 30th, 2018 04:23 pm (UTC)

Mar. 30th, 2018 07:24 pm (UTC)
Here you are:

12. “This is a rotten town, with a lot of rotten people in it.”

Good luck :)

Mar. 30th, 2018 07:25 pm (UTC)
This quote makes me grin:

9. “Listen, Dundy, it's been a long time since I burst into tears because a policeman didn't like me.”

Good luck :)

I legitimately just snorted out loud at work. This should be fun.
Mar. 30th, 2018 05:46 pm (UTC)
I'll take 23 please! Thank you!
Mar. 30th, 2018 07:26 pm (UTC)
This quote is so badass:)

23. “People lose teeth talking like that. If you want to hang around, you’ll be polite.”

Good luck :)
Mar. 30th, 2018 08:31 pm (UTC)
I'll go with my usual number: 13!
Mar. 30th, 2018 09:23 pm (UTC)
This quote's kind of cool:

13. “There is no bad whiskey. There are only some whiskeys that aren't as good as others.”

Good luck :)

I was surprised at how fast this one hit me, especially as, when I saw this before bed yesterday evening, I was a little disappointed. I kinda shy away from alcohol myself. And I most certainly wasn't disappointed in what it inspired bright and early this morning while the moon was still out!

Home and Family, The Magnificent Seven, Chris/Vin, 1,148 words, PG/K+

Thanks for inspiring!!

Excellent work!

What can I give you for a reward?

Being that you enjoyed my Paige and Prue earlier and both need more loving these days, why don't you give them, or either of them, a little loving care? :)
Aug. 17th, 2018 07:48 pm (UTC)
I actually did it--a Prue and Paige 175 word drabble:

I'll take the number 5, please.
Mar. 31st, 2018 02:46 pm (UTC)
This is a good one:

5. Joel Cairo: "You always have a very smooth explanation ready."
Sam Spade: "What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?”

Good luck :)
Mar. 31st, 2018 03:21 pm (UTC)
16 please
Mar. 31st, 2018 07:29 pm (UTC)
This one's wonderfully sarcastic:

16. “'Who shot him?' I asked."
"The grey man scratched the back of his neck and said: 'Somebody with a gun.'”
Mar. 31st, 2018 03:42 pm (UTC)
19 please
Mar. 31st, 2018 07:28 pm (UTC)
This one's pretty tough:

19. "I've never committed a crime of violence, but I'm getting the urge."

Good luck :)
