It’s not that he thought the cowboy was lying to him, although that was always a possibility. But there was something not quite right about what Reyes was saying. The facts felt skewed and the emotions forced. Zayne’s handsome face held a note of something undefinable and it troubled James. Why would he fib? There was no reason in this situation, but his gut was telling him not to fall for it. Don’t buy into the malarkey that the Texan was spewing. But god, those eyes, they were drawing him in.

“Okay, cowboy,” he sighed. “Tell me again, what happened?”

Oooh, I know that feeling so well, and I think you have hit the nail on the head here. Well done!

Thank you! I think we've all been here at one time or another. :)

Those eyes will get you every time.

Well done!

Hah, thanks! And Zayne's got these purty green ones, too. :)

You get a feeling in the pit of your stomach, almost like a sixth sense, that something is a little off with this guy. You listen to what he is saying, as you interpret it in your mind to be something entirely different, something not so innocent. You nod and force a half-smile, still wanting to keep him at ease while your mind frantically tries to figure out where the danger is coming from. Your arms cross in front of your chest, a gesture of protection, as you wonder how long you have to be polite before you can escape.

Not sure I got this one down as well as the others...but its an effort at least:

(no warnings...no spoilers...only a mention of John Constantine)

Following something beyond senses, beyond instinct, the trail of something that pulled like a chain around his neck, the black wolf loped over the snow through the evening meadow fog. The haunting cry of his kind echoed in the distance, to be joined by another somewhere behind, calling him, perhaps, to join them in hunt or sport. But they were not his kind, not really, and he would never dare put his life in their hands. Individually, he was stronger, but their strength in numbers meant he could be overpowered, and risking his life for a moonlight dalliance was not worth the effort. He valued his life too much for that…and he had something to do…somewhere to be…

…if he could only remember.

Only the beacon, the pull, the only reality he was sure of. Even as his insides clung to that thread, clawing to get out yet knowing this was the best way, the only way, he was going to find the end of it and bring the other home.

Once that was done, he hoped there would be enough of him to come back. The wolf was his salvation…his damnation…his whole future if he, or John Constantine, failed.

Thanks. I like it well enough...just not sure it described distrust as well as the other 'emotion descriptions' I've done.
