“She won’t even let me mention your name in the house.”
He winced at the whining, wondering why he was ever attracted to her. He should have gotten a nice Latina girl from the neighborhood.
Arturo looked at his son again and knew that he was in for life.

Dakotah scratched the back of his neck and looked at his son. The dhampir looked back at him, the barest hint of fang showed over his lower lip. It was the most menacing pout Dakotah had ever seen, and he’d seen a thing or two in his immortal lifetime. What had Sierra been thinking, giving this predatory child a kitten? Austen hadn’t hurt Bela, but there might come a time when he did. It was either curb his son’s instincts or hide the cat.
On second thought, maybe they could hone each other’s survival skills? It was worth a shot.

Note: No kitties were harmed in the making of this drabble. :D
I haven't read anything involving "dhampir" before, but I'm guessing it's some sort of vampire hybrid?
Sorry - this is part of an older, ongoing series of mine so I didn't even think about that. But yes, a dhampir is a vampire/human hybrid that, depending on folklore, can go into the daylight and other things. I think Blade, the Vampire Hunter was one.

Summary: That night, someone else steps in to help Luke and Ben work out what went wrong (MAJOR SPOILERS!)
She loved the sound of the rain, always had since childhood. So when the rain started, she took her mug of coffee, her favourite fleece blanket, and the book she was reading and headed to the porch. She couldn’t say when she noticed him standing there looking out over the ocean as if he’d never seen it before. It almost seemed s if he didn’t know the rain was falling as he stood there getting soaked. She was about to take a dry coat down to him and invite him in when she saw him turn and stumble slightly, his weight leaning heavily on a cane she hadn’t noticed before. She continued to watch as he limped his way down the beach, occasionally struggling with the softer sand, until he was far enough out of view and the increasing rainfall blurred her view. Turning back to hr book and her now cold cup of coffee, she wondered if she’d see him again.
