Awesome Monday

Hello and here are once again at the beginning of another week. I hope everyone survived the weekend and are ready to kick word butt.

Pool party has started and we have one fic already. Way to go fairyniamh!

Fics and graphics may be posted here , so I can keep track and make certain everyone is duly rewarded.

We have a birthday this week. Please wish asphaltcowgrrl a very happy birthday tomorrow.

haldoor is back from Moving Hell and is seeking vic "cough" volunteers to help with the weekend challenges for the rest of the year.

Whoever has the Daily Count, please remember to pass it on. Big Buddy will be popping up sometime this week, so let's give him something to crow about.

So onto the reason of this post. How is everyone planning to be awesome this week?

Me, I'm planning on finishing and turning in a challenge fic, and then going back to finding a fandom I haven't played in yet for Pool Party.

I can't believe school here is starting Aug. 9th...its like the kids just got out of school...we don't even get snow days (I think there has been 1 in the 10 years I've been here...though the schools were closed a bit last year due to the wildfires that made them evacuate the area for over a week).
Pretty soon they'll be going all year round...not that I have kids in school to worry about it

My kids got screwed this year - the district is switching up the start and end dates so their summer is getting cut short by 2 weeks this year. Instead of going back at the end of August, they start 8/14.

I'm not sure where you are but we've had one snow day in the 30+ years I've lived here, and that one wasn't even needed (it was just so they could say they had to call a snow day, I think).

I'm in northern CA...about 2 hrs more or less north of San Francisco/Sacramento. We're on a lake, and most of the county doesn't get snow except high in the mountains. We had one year of 'snow'...I'd driven in worse in Colorado, but the folks around here of course don't know how to drive in it normally lol

Ah, gotcha. I'm in southern NV so you know how often we get snow in the valley. :D Seriously though! People here can't drive in the rain, either. And while I know we don't get much of that, it's a lot more common at least.

Ah yes...like those in Southern CA (Los Angeles) forget how to drive in the rain from one rainy season to the next. I know that one!

EXACTLY. :D And I get the joy of having both local drivers and those from AZ/SoCal who can't drive in the rain. :)

I've never had a snow day in my life... the last 'snow' in Auckland lasted all of half an hour, melting as it hit anything, and that was the first time we'd had snow in 70 years!!! No wildfire days either... ;-)

Rain, on the other hand, we do know! :D

I've lived here almost all of my life and I'd never even heard of a snow day here before. Mostly, we'll get the very occasional flurry that doesn't stick. We've not had a wildfire day either, but we sure get enough wildfires. *sigh*

Hah! And rain is the oddity for me, although we're moving into monsoon season here soon so rain is all I'll know for a few weeks!
