Word of the Day 02/09/21 Lagom

Lagom (noun)
lagom [ lo-gawm ]

1. the principle of living a balanced, moderately paced, low-fuss life: those who achieve lagom routinely take time to appreciate their surroundings, take several breaks during the workday, dress from a minimal and versatile wardrobe, and treat others with respect and kindness: After spending two fabulous months with my in-laws at their home in Stockholm, I’ve decided I need to bring some lagom into my hectic American life.

Origin: First recorded in 1835–40; from Swedish: literally, “just right, just the thing, in moderation,” dative plural of lag “law,” used as an adverb

Swedes used to pride themselves on their sense of moderation, what they referred to as lagom.

Now YOU come up with a sentence (or fic? or graphic?) that best illustrates the word.

Here’s the rules:
1) 100 words or 1 graphic.

It’s that easy.
There is no need for your work to all connect. There is no need for them to be in order.

If you are stuck or would like a random word to use, poke me and I will provide.

Now everyone tell me about

Weekend Challenge: Schedule 1 (Jan to July) 2021

I know I am behind as ever, but I've finally finished the draft of the schedule for the first part of 2021 for our Weekend Challenges!

As most of you know, the Weekend Challenge prompts will be open to fill (and linked back to the Weekend Challenge post) until Thursday of the following week. The challenge post will go up on Friday (or Saturday morning at the latest); the Weekend Challenge host will advise what you need to do to get prompts & how to fill them, and you may even get a reward, should your host be so generous!

And if anyone else wants to volunteer as back-up (in case someone has to change at the last minute) let me know in a comment here too!

Thank you all again for volunteering! ;-)

WIP Push: check-in and some prompts!

How are you doing with your WIP so far? I still haven't dug out any WIPs to work on, but I really need to get onto that this week!

Three orphaned prompts from previous challenges I've located in my vault:

1. Too much time on my hands.
2. Suitcase.
3. Don't call me babe!

Use them how you will in your WIP - if they're useful and get you going, please let us know here. You can even post an excerpt from your writing, if you want. I know I'd love to see it!

And otherwise, if you need any other help or want to chat about how you're doing; we're here for that too!

January count!

I am always a bit slow to get going as most of you know, and since I forgot completely about doing the January count all this past long weekend in my part of the world (Monday was a holiday, in lieu of Saturday, for our national day, Waitangi Day on the 6th), in favour of binge-watching "The Untamed" on Netflix (I'm up to ep12 for any fellow fans of this Chinese fantasy adventure!).

However, I finally got my act together and have the numbers for you now!

Image word: 77 x 1,000. This is wonderful!

Written word: 147,111. What a great way to begin the year!

1_million_words Total words to date 2021: 224,111

You guys are so freaking AWESOME!!!

Don't forget, we have two challenges going for you this month: WIP Push and Three Sentence fic! Grab hold of some of the prompts, pull out a WIP and get to it, or pull up some words and make something short and sweet!

Whatever you do, let's be creative out there!!! ;-)
