Weekend Challenge: Line from a Book

I know I'm a little late kicking off this weekend's challenge, but I made it, and that's what counts. Some of you may have noticed we didn't have one last week, so let's make sure that doesn't happen again this year!

The weekend challenges will run the same way as last year, as this seemed quite popular. This, for those who don't know, means the post goes up some time on Friday in your local time - as long as it's up by midnight Friday PST, it's all good - and you have until the following Thursday to fulfil your prompt and link it back to the original post in order to receive whatever reward the host is offering.  By all means take longer if the prompt speaks to you in a way that gets you a 50K word novel - we're all for that! - but your reward will be forfeit, unless the host feels able to oblige.   Fair enough, right? The host sets the rules, and YOU can create whatever you like, or skip it if you can't find time or even if the prompt doesn't work for you. No censure, no blame.
