Alright! Who let Monday happen? Who was in charge? Dammit! *headdesk*

Okay then. So it's 5:37 on Monday morning, I've had 2 sips of coffee, and can already feel the mad dash to get out the door pressure. How are you all doing?

We've got a whole bunch of challenges going on. Did you get your 5+1 done, or your TV show? Are you keeping up with the 100-in-100? We still have some time left before the end of the month! We can do this!

I feel like I was awesome last week, although I've had too little coffee to sufficiently expound upon that. This we, though, this week we will be even more awesome!

Now, I have to hit the shower and head out to work. What are your plans for awesome this week?

Daily Count Challenge May!

Comment here and I'll put you on the list and it's entirely possible that I'll remember to start naming contestants on the first!

It's as simple as stepping up when your name is called and doing your utmost to meet your own daily word count (whatever that may be). When you finish, write a small bragging post and call up the next contestant!

Be accountable for one day!

Beta resource

I was on Pinterest last week - as I am want to do - and I stumbled across a link to a blog about Beta Reader Ettiquette. It talks about critiquing in a positive and productive way, and then it talks about taking in that critique in a positive and productive way.

I am not kidding you when I say that in the last week I have had three different conversations about this topic. One about what a writer could be looking for from their reader. One about what the reader could be trying to give to their writer. And the last conversation was about finding you find someone you can mesh with. It's a beautiful thing when a writer and reader can make a team. It doesn't always go well, personalities and defenses clash; but when it's good, it's great!

So go read the article. If you are solely a writer or a reader, it may give you a better perspective of the other side of the fence. It's not waffle cheese, but it's still good.

Big Buddy May

Awesome April!

Comment here with the count you can reach in the month of May (remember to factor in holidays, finals, road trips, pajama days, hangovers, etc). I will check in with you every 6(ish) days to make sure you are on schedule, to push you if you aren't, and to shake pompoms at you if you are (Well, I'll probably shake pompoms at you either way).

Your count is up to you. There is no minimum beyond what you decide. But Big Buddy will be watching you! If you pledge 100 words/images, then every 6 days chime in to tell us that you've produced 20% of them.

This is not words to be done in lieu of something else. If you have a bingo, or a big bang, or a drabble-a-day, it all counts! Words/images do not have to be posted to count, they just have to be done!

Monthly Madness: Original Fic

It's time for another Original Fic post! How are all our orig fic writers doing? This month I thought I'd ask if any of you would like to share something you'd written with us, be it full story, chapter or small excerpt.

no title

And as a question for discussion, I'd like to ask if you use a beta reader for your own stories or do you post as is, that is if you're posting fic. If you're aiming for publication, do you test your fic out on readers, have a beta reader, or just send it off to publishers? perhaps you do something else entirely? Also, what do you expect from a beta reader in original fic - the same sort of concrit/catching of typos/spelling, grammar & punctuation advice you'd expect from fandom beta readers, or something different altogether?

So c'mon out, anyone who writes or would like to write orig fic; this is your safe place! And I'd just like to offer up a general reminder to all our members here, though I know most of you are already on board with this: please remember that no criticism should be offered unless you have a constructive comment on how it could be fixed; 1_million_words has a strict policy of being polite and helpful in all interactions with other members - personal attacks and insults are not welcome here, nor in outside contact with members that may have originated at the comm. Thank you for adhering to this; we do take this seriously as we know there are many places on the internet where flaming and intolerance are rife. WE ARE NOT ABOUT ANY OF THAT.
