Let’s start out with talking about what we accomplished last year. Did you write as much original work as you had planned? What are you most proud of from 2016?
What’s on your plate for the new year? Are you going to continue to move forward with the same set of old friends or do you have something new on the back burner? Thinking of trying a new genre?
As for me, I didn’t quite hit my goal for 2016, but I did post a good number of words, the majority of them all original work. I moved my characters forward in their lives and I’d like to think that there was some character growth, even for that caveman of a cowboy. But he’s the proverbial work in progress – the kind of guy who takes one step forward and then two steps back.
For the new year, I hope to flesh out something I dabbed with during the 100-in-100 at the end of the year. That’s my goal for this year – to get that fic sorted and written. Hopefully it’ll even get posted before 2018. And, of course, I’ll continue on with my established idiotic characters because well, I love ‘em all too much to let them go.
So, what’s on your plate for 2017?

2017...well...I've put in a lot of time (translating that into words cause it is writing related) investigating publishing options...a big step for me really. Since my main project is WAY over the wordcount the majority of publishers seem to want (especially from a first time author) I'm looking into self publishing. Struggling with artwork and with my 'blurb'...not finding anyone willing to read that tinny bit and offer advise which is discouraging...but I'm still working ahead. I've gotten this far without a beta, so ya know ;)
Had planned to start writing my NaNo sequel...but I think I'm gonna run with the publishing stuff since I'm feeling uncharacteristically motivated...

Dealing in a way with construction contracts on a regular basis, I know where you're coming from. That talk can make something simple into something very convoluted. You can do this! I know it! :D
Part of the problem is that a lot of readers want very linear storytelling, and this is not that. Add to it that one of the characters is trapped in (and accidentally dies in) a virtual world created by a fellow scientist (testing gone horribly wrong) and...well... people get confused. Sigh.
The teacher told me I probably had to consider my audience, i.e. 'this is genre, mostly only genre readers will read it, it's niche...' and that's likely very true. I will pick it back up.
Meantime - I just finished a whole first chapter of my "It Never Rains in California" idea!! Whoo hoo! I just have to write the portion of it that shows what you would have seen on the TV show, and then the fic will follow. I'm considering how to describe it on the AO3 synopsis. Basically it's a fanfic based on a fictional, slashy mid-90's TV show inspired by an old story-song, starring familiar faces at a much younger age. :). Ha.
I need to recast a couple of the parts- if I get to that today, maybe I'll post the character descriptions here and ask for some feedback on possible actors.
PS: I really like your OT3 fics - I'm terrible about commenting, but I do enjoy them. Especially Andrej, (sp?) he's got a good heart. I have a distinct picture of him as a person, he's a really well-rounded character.

The story sounds fascinating though, and would totally be something I'd read. Reminds me a little of Tad Williams' Otherland series. A kid gets *stuck* in a virtual gaming world and his sister (plus way too many others) have to band together to save him. So, your teacher is right about the genre thing, but the good news is, there's a good sized audience for it, too.
Score! I still love the idea for this TV show. Can't wait to read some of it once you get it posted, too. Good luck with it! I know that you'll get a ton of input on character casting.
Aw, thanks and don't worry about it! Makes me happy to know that they're being read. Yes, Andrej is my favorite of the three, and as much abuse as I heap on him, he always takes it in stride. <3
The others may have to take a backseat until I know how this one is going, but there is another large SF story I want to work on, so we'll see if I manage both... you never know!
Good luck either way. I try to only work on one thing at a time otherwise my characters start calling their SO's by the wrong name... but if you can do it, go for it!
