January Month End Original Fic Post

Hello out there in internetland! haldoor asked me to help out with the Monday original fic posts so you’re stuck with me for at least half the year.  Or, until she kicks me out of the comm, whichever comes first.

So, since this is the first post of the New Year, let’s start at the beginning with a few launching off questions.

For the newbies out there and those that are sitting on the fence about trying their hand at original work, speak up.  We’re here to help and this is a great place to start asking all those burning questions you have on your mind!  I have been doing this for a long time – and not that that means I’m any good at it, but you know – and am always willing to lend a helping hand.  All you have to do is ask!

I’ll get us started off:

Where are you with your original work?  Do you have a stockpile of WIPs like I do or are you starting fresh for January?
I’m everywhere with it to be quite honest.  I finished several multi-chapter works in two different original fandoms (for lack of a better term) and was even inspired to create a new ‘world’ during the year end drabble prompt marathon.  On the other hand, I have a mountain of half-finished and barely started original WIPs.  But, that’s pretty typical for me as I’m a rather scattered and unorganized writer.

Are you an old hand at this or tentatively sticking your toe into the water for the first time?
Definitely an old hand.  I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember and  actually didn’t start writing fanfic until 2012.  Since the show that inspired me to write fanfic died after one season, I’ve pretty much reverted back to my original work.

What do you find the hardest about starting a new original work?  The easiest?
For me, titles are always the hardest part of any work.  Conflict is also rough for me as well because, in real life, I tend to shy away from as much conflict as I can!  But it’s necessary in a story so building that conflict and making it real can be hard for me.  The easiest, however, is the characters.  It’s odd but they seem to randomly appear in my brain one day and start knocking at the inside of my skull (which probably explains the headaches now that I think about it).

So what about you?  Step up and let’s talk!

**H, I didn't tag this because I wasn't sure if we were going with the old Monday Madness tag or not.  Let me know and I'll edit it to reflect the proper tag
