Drink On It Part 2
Square

“That’s an old fashioned glass,” Zeklos said, pointing at the square-ish set of glasses James pulled from the cupboard.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever had one of those before, have you?” Zayne looked at his partner, waiting.

“No,” Zek replied, “I haven’t. Isn’t there whisky in that, Jay?”

“There is,” he confirmed, “but in an effort to keep us from being absolutely miserable in the morning, there is a rum variation that we’re going to try tonight.”

Zayne swirled what was left of his punch in the glass, swallowing down the last bits of the drink. Tugging on Zeklos’ arm, he pulled his partner close to him, pressing their mouths together for the briefest of moments. “You taste like punch,” Zayne laughed.

“And you’re already getting silly,” Andrej sighed. “This is going to be a difficult night.”

“Not for long,” James assured him. “Once we get a little more alcohol into you, you won’t notice how silly he’s being. Or me either, for that matter.”

James mixed the rum with sugar, lime, and bitters before dropping a few cubes of ice into the mix and handing them over. “There’s a tequila variation as well, but I think jumping from rum to agave nectar might not be the smartest move right now.”

Zayne took his glass from the narco and saluted him with it. “But later,” Reyes insisted. “Tequila will cure what ails you.”

“Or kill you before you know something’s ailing you,” Zeklos muttered. He took a tentative sip of the new drink and swallowed it down.

“What do you think,” James asked, taking a draw off his own glass.

“Not as sweet as the other, but still good. The kind of drink you have with a meal or just after,” Zeklos stated.

“I can agree with that,” Reyes added. “Although, not quite my kind of drink.”

“Fair enough,” James said, reaching for the Texan’s glass.

“Wait a damn minute,” Zayne said, moving his glass away from the grabby bartender. “I never said you could have it back.”

Zeklos began to laugh. “I would think that you’d know by now that taking food or drink away from him was a bad idea. He bites.”

“Yes, I know,” James said. He pulled aside the collar of his shirt to show the purpling bruise from a recent love bite.

“I can give you a matching one, if you want. Just a little higher up on the other side maybe?”

James rolled his eyes. “Keep the marking below my collar, cowboy. The less I have to explain to Jake, the better.”

Jake Hansen was James’ partner and although he was nice enough, there were some things he just didn’t need to know. Considering that homicide and narcotics often relied on each other for shared information, the last thing Andrej wanted was for the entire vice department to know of their odd little relationship. It was difficult enough walking into robbery homicide every morning now that Hilary – and of course, Trish – knew the details of their bit of polyamory. After a brief consensus, they’d all agreed that the less the public knew, the better. For now anyway.

“Who’s up for the next drink?” James held up his nearly empty glass and shook it.

“Bring it on, bartender,” Reyes challenged.

“God help me,” Zeklos muttered.

Yeah, methinks they're all going to be hatin' life in the morning. :D
