They lay on their backs in the dappled sunlight, the leafy trees above creating a natural canopy. Ethan preferred a little more sunshine, but it was warm out today and the shade from the leaves overhead was a welcome relief. Besides, he’d get more than his fair share of sunshine on walk back to the house later.

He reached out and took Travis’ hand in his own, reveling in the coolness of his skin despite the heat of the day. They’d left the cool stillness of the lake behind nearly an hour ago and yet, Travis’ body retained a slight chill from the temperate water. Murphy’s fingers twined with his own, giving a gentle squeeze before relaxing again.

“You want to go for another swim,” he asked. “Or would you rather go home?”

It was a tough question. Ethan had to work later that night, so he needed some real rest, not just this drowsing half naked in the dimming day. On the other hand, going home meant Travis would go back to writing and they’d be separated until dinnertime. “Can’t we stay here forever?”

“No, you can’t,” Sheriff McCallum said, emerging from the tree-lined pathway that led to the lake. “But at least you’re both dressed this time. Mostly.”

Ethan scrambled to his feet, swim trunks threatening to slide from his narrow hips. “Sheriff, I –”

“At ease,” McCallum chuckled. “I was out this way visiting one of your neighbors and thought I’d stop by and say hello to the town hermit.”

“Just one more service happily provided by the White Pine Police Department,” Ethan quipped.
Travis had the grace to be embarrassed. “Sorry, I get wrapped up in my fantasy world sometimes –”

“And he not only forgets to leave the house, but he also forgets to eat, sleep, shower, and say hello,” Ethan finished. “But you get used to it.”

McCallum’s face broke into a giant grin. “I can learn to get used to this, it’s much better than the things he did when he was a teenager.”

“Can we not go down this road again,” Travis muttered. “I grew up, I learned to behave.”

“You grew up,” Ethan agreed. “But I’m not sure you’ll ever behave.”

“Point,” Travis conceded. “We were just on our way back home, Sheriff.”

“No rush boys,” he said, waving a hand at them. “As long as you’re properly covered, I can’t make you leave. “Just don’t be late, McDowell, or I’ll have your hide.”

“Yes, sir,” Ethan said, unsure of whether McCallum was joking or not. He figured it was better to err on the side of caution and not be late. “Have a safe trip back into town.”

“And you two have a good night,” he returned, disappearing back the way he’d come.

“Huh,” Travis said, pushing up on his elbows to watch the sheriff depart. “He really stopped by to check on me?”

“He sure did,” Ethan confirmed. “We talk about you a lot, says that your mama worries about you living all the way out here by yourself. Although, she’s better now that you’re not alone.”

“You think he was worried about us? Is that why he hiked all the way out to the lake?”

“No,” Ethan laughed. “I think he was worried we might be skinny dipping again.”

“You know –”

“Not on your life, Murph.”

“You’re no fun.”

“I’m a lot of fun,” Ethan countered. “But no more getting naked in public. If you want to get wet, we have a shower big enough for two at home.”

Travis’ smile widened into a leer. “Now you’re talking,” he said, rising up from his spot on the ground. “Last one home does the dishes!”

Ethan stood and watched his juvenile husband take off down the path leaving his shirt, socks and shoes on the forest floor. Some things wouldn’t ever change and Travis’ aversion to housework was top on that list.

A little Hulkeye for kaige68.

Green was the color that Clint preferred over all others because it was the color of his lover’s alter-ego, the Incredible Hulk.

It was in his embrace that Clint currently found himself because he had to jump off another building so that he could get out of harm’s way once again.

“Thanks, Big Guy,” Clint said once the Hulk got finished scolding him.

The Hulk set Clint down on the ground before settling to the ground himself as he let go of control and allowed Bruce Banner to surface once again.

Clint caught hold of Bruce and whispered into his ear, “Welcome back, babe.”

“It’s good to be back,” Bruce quietly said his voice still rough from all the roaring the Hulk had done. “But, you need to stop giving us a heart attack.”

“I can try, but I can’t promise miracles,” Clint gently quipped as helped Bruce to stand and wrap a blanket around his shoulders.

“I’ll take what I can get,” Bruce said as he tried to snuggle deeper into Clint’s embrace. “Can we go home now?”

“Certainly,” Clint said with a soft smile. He led Bruce over to the Quinjet and helped him get settled into the co-pilot’s seat. He brushed a kiss against Bruce’s forehead. “Sweet dreams, babe. We’ll be home in no time.”

Bruce smiled, yawned and then fell into a light doze.

“Love you, too, babe,” Clint murmured before he settled into the pilot’s seat and got the Quinjet ready for take-off.
