NaNo and min Nano week 4

Entering the final stretch for NaNo and miniwrimo. NaNo folks should strive to pass 40K by Tues Nov 24. Those working the miniwrimo should aim for 80% completion by Tues.

How's everyone's project coming? Anything we can help with?

I hate my novel's title, so I'll have to come up with something better. It also took a slight detour tonight that I'm not sure I wanted, but in the spirit of NaNo I'm leaving it in to be fixed later. Right now I just want to push to wrap up the story by Nov 30.

Dance/vent/pump your fists with your successes and trials here :D

** I accidentally tagged this as challenge:word war and no matter how many times I edit tags, LJ keeps putting it back. One last try (to edit the post itself then I'm tossing it up to evil LJ sprites messing with me. Sorry for any confusion. **

When checking my Word Count yesterday, when I was about to leave the Words of the day I saw that I have less than 100 Words to the second goal I set for the month. So I will try to aim to get the more good looking number of 10 000 Words. So all I have to do for the rest of the Days write a minumum of 135 Words and I get there. It is so possible.

In other Words I feel quite good about what I have acomplish
I finished: 6 Xmas stories (which includes a challenge)
2 short fic's (one original and one in a new fandom)
1 chapter on a wip story
and then on a few other things.
I hope to finish a few more stories and chapter Before the end.

**Stands and cheers**

That is wonderful! You're doing great! And you can so knock off 135 words.

Well done!!!

(I'd include a dancing gif of some sort but all my source images went bye bye with the hard drive)

Thanks again for keeping everyone motivated and going this month! I managed to edit out that extra tag for you!

I have a woeful number this month, thanks to an unexpected death in the family (and lack of motivation, I have to say), but the good news is that I am doing quite well on graphics (7 banners for October's challenge and one part of my SoJ gift!) so I don't feel as bad as I might. Now if I can just finish my Christmas cards and get them ready for posting before the 4th December, I'll be even happier!

No problem on the NaNo posts - It helps to hear about the successes and trials of others - puts us all in a boat so to speak :)

I finished out the day just shy of 40k which puts me about 2 days ahead of schedule -very happy about that

I loved your banner/rewards go you :)

You're doing fantastically, and you're certainly right about that boat! ;-)

And thank you - I've got such a lot to learn about Photoshop, but I have fun trying! ;-)

Literally the only thing that vaguely keeps me anywhere close to my word count goal is the phonefic I've been doing every day, but it's just not enough.

Also having some anxiety problems with regards to TV Universe because I genuinely haven't been able to do half the challenges no matter how hard I try. I mean, write a 5k+ word fic? Done. Make some icons? Okay. Make an acrostic poem for a character's name based on songs? I had to ask for a language exemption just to finish this. Choose a show that has already ended and make a reboot? I... it took me five days to even find a completed show that's conceivably exciting enough to attempt a reboot (the thing about shows based on written material is that the better the show, the more likely it is that the original material never ends, and so the show doesn't even HAVE an ending it just stops halfway), and then the parameters were like... find a cast and I'm like, you can't possibly ask me to spend another week looking up possible human actors on Wikipedia - not that I even have an idea where to start - just for a landcomm challenge. Find screenshots that are related to the previously-posted screenshot? Well, that's nice and all, but the best I can manage is something like "oh look there's a table in the previous screenshot", but the thing is, I have absolutely no clue which episode of my shows features a table, because that's not the kind of thing I pay attention to? And I noticed that someone in one of the posts put their explanation of link to previous picture as "animated show", and I was so very tempted to just put screenshots with the link as "live-action show", but the sad thing is that I probably won't be allowed to do so even though I'm doing the exact same thing they are.

It's probably not the right landcomm for me, since despite the "we welcome non-English non-live-action television shows" disclaimer (and it's obvious the mods are really trying, and they're awesome for this) it's really hard to fill some of the challenges.

Other than my ongoing epic (also my personal goal for the year), everything else is on task :/

oh gosh - that's a tough one with the land comm. I've never been fond of the reboot/recast challenges so I usually skip them whenever they come up. You're already a member of my team on gameofcards but have you checked out allthingsfandom - I'm currently on a solo team because I knew I'd be too busy with NaNoWriMo and so I only do a few of the challenges as I have time.

Anything we can do to help get you on track for your ongoing epic? Prompts, word wars - drop a note :D

You can do this! There's still time, but most importantly make time for the fun stuff and drop the land comm or challenges that are stressors.

I think my problem with landcomms (other than GoC) is that I can't see the challenges before deciding whether to sign up, and so I end up caught unaware, and dropping out feels like I'm shirking responsibility. For GoC, the sheer volume of challenges means there is literally no pressure for me to do them all, since it's logically impossible if you aren't on holiday, and I usually just do the ones that yield a lot of points / I actually like doing. So a new landcomm probably wouldn't help matters, but thank you so much for the suggestion!

As for other things... I've already stopped watching shows, barely read anymore, and there was an online game I picked up again last month after a 5-year hiatus, but I've stopped that too because it was interfering with writing time - like, I get home at 9pm, which means theoretically I should be able to get 3 hours of writing done, but I'm not producing 3k words - and there's nothing left (sleep, food and work aren't on the table for obvious reasons :P though I do sometimes write phonefic during the latter two, especially on the days I can spare more than fifteen minutes for lunch).

For the epic... prompts aren't necessary, thanks for offering! It's not even a question of losing interest; all my phonefic pertain to side stories in that 'verse, but the actual story needs to be in chronological order, and sometimes I feel that my own writing doesn't do the story I want to tell justice. Like, so, I'm an action writer, so there's permanently this lingering fear that one day I'll run out of new material for combat scenes; plus wondering if I got all the foreshadowing in, because I refuse to retcon. This is a fic whose first book is expected to be about 350k words, and has about 4 sequels (by sheer accident) spanning about 2 thousand years. I loved the research into culture and history and mythology, but when it comes into fixing all the plot twists (there are two Einstein-level geniuses, one as the antagonist and one helping the protagonist, and it's a challenge to keep up with them because I don't want to pull a deux ex machina, I want people to actually scream I SHOULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING ALL THE CLUES ARE THERE I MUST REREAD THIS), catching all the underlying plot threads woven into the story and planting the seeds for the series of escalating conflicts - because this is meant to be realistic, and in life you can't just focus on the one bad guy in front of you, there are other things simultaneously in motion -

People have been really good about not badgering me for updates, which is nice, but sometimes I feel like I'm too slow with no excuse for it - how hard can 10k words a month be? :/

The word wars hosted so far have been awesome, but none of them have been going into this story, and I've got five weeks left to turn out 100k words (it's a rewrite, so technically 30-40k is already done) on top of my Yuletide fic (already outlined and waiting for actual writing), redoing my Swap of Joy entry, doing an art piece for a big bang, and my entry for TV Universe's big bang. Which is doable... if I actually get on it.
