Clara was stretching her legs with a walk through the corridors of the TARDIS.
She came across a room, a long narrow room only a dozen feet wide but bewilderingly deep. Along the left wall, stretching into the distance, were six rows of shelves. Tightly packed onto the shelves were garden gnomes of all shapes and sizes.
"You found the gnomes then."
Clara turned to find Amy standing, leaning against the door frame with her arms crossed.
"Yeah..." Clara looked back at the gnomes, a particularly jaunty looking fellow with a tall green glitter top hat on caught her eye. "Even for him, this is a bit weird."
"It's River's fault," Amy said with a smile. "There was a gnome that belonged to the king of some planet or another, the Doctor bet her she couldn't steal it."
"So River had to steal it," Clara nodded, she started making her way back through the room towards Amy. Amy was looking particularly leggy in a short light blue denim skirt and brown leather cowboy boots.
"Oh yeah, so it became a thing. They stole thousands of gnomes for each other across time and space, and they all ended up in here."
"That's almost romantic."
Amy picked up the gnome nearest her. It was ugly and had an angry expression on his face. "Romantic."
"What did River win? What did the Doctor bet?" Clara asked.
"No idea, all River would say is there are some things a mother should never know about her daughter."
Amy and Clara burst out laughing. Amy put the gnome back. "So, a little birdie told me your secret."
"Oh?"
Amy leaned in close conspiratorially. "It's your birthday."
"He promised he wouldn't tell anyone!" Clara put her hands on her hips and scowled.
Amy found it adorable. "He tried not to. He failed."
"I'll bloody kill him."
"Maybe you should wait until you find out what your present is," she leaned in even close, a glint in her eye and a smile on her lips that suddenly made Clara feel a mix of excitement and nerves.
"No, see, that's why I told him to shut up about it, I didn't want any fuss."
"Tell you what, come with me, I'll show you your present and if you don't like it you can...come back to the gnomes."
Clara sighed. She could see that Amy wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Alright, I hope you didn't go to any trouble."
Amy just grabbed Clara by the hand and led her out of the room and down the corridor.
After five minutes walking, three left turns and a right, Clara asked "where are we going?"
"You'll see, not much further," Amy said.
Clara's thoughts whirled. What on Earth, or any other world for that matter, had Amy gotten her?
Amy stopped in front of a plain white door. "Okay, here we are. Don't look so terrified," Amy laughed and squeezed her hand. "Go on," she nodded at the door.
Clara hesitated. She had the strangest sense that there was something thrilling and dangerous awaiting her on the other side. She could tell that Amy thought that it was something truly amazing.
Clara opened the door and stepped into the room.
It took a second for her brain to catch up with what she was seeing.
The room was a bedroom, the bed huge, and on it was another Amy and another Clara. They were both naked and as Clara entered they were caught up in some hot and heavy kissing.
When they stopped they both looked at Clara.
"Hi," the other Amy said with a dirty laugh.
The other Clara waved sheepishly.
Clara turned back to Amy, her Amy, whose was grinning like that cat that got the job of guarding the creamery.
"Happy birthday," Amy said, in a way that sounded like she'd said something really quite filthy.
Clara's eyes were wide and she licked her lips. It appeared she was going to have a very happy birthday indeed.
"So, this or the gnomes?" Amy asked.
"This, definitely this."
Amy grinned and stepped in to kiss her. Then took her hand and led her to the bed to join their future selves.
Oh. Oh, yes. Clara likes. Clara likes verrrrry much. Clara is indeed having a very happy birthday...on multiple fronts. Thank you so very much!!!!!
