WIP Push: May 1 & 2

How'd you do? Did you get words; make progress?

For those of you counting daily, tell me how many words or graphics you did!

For those working weekly or just doing things as and when they can, it's optional for you to comment, but we'd love to hear what you've accomplished so far. ;-)

Haven't done much these past two days, but I've created some documents for brainstorming about how to continue with my stories.

However, the more I think about my stuff, the less I feel able to actually write it. How do I words?

Also, I created a WIP list ordered by the number of subscriptions they have. Of course, the ones I want to continue atm, no one professes any interest in xD

Brainstorming is good! I get what you're saying though about thinking and being less able to write, sometimes I think my brain tends to think a story is 'finished' if I write too much in my head and then I can't translate that to a page because my subconscious says 'you're done'.

So I find not planning TOO MUCH (sometimes you need to do some, of course) is the key to making me get it down - if the actual story words are fairly vague, but I have some idea of what should happen, opening a document and starting to type is the best solution. I don't know if that's any help to you, but here's hoping!

As for which ones you want to write vs ones that seem most popular, I firmly believe that stories 'write themselves' better (if you know what I mean) when YOU want to write them, not when you are doing what others want, so the best thing is to write what you want. Sometimes, you may also be surprised at the result, because FINISHING something is 1/ it's own reward and 2/ often a more popular story in the end, as there are a surprising number of people who won't even start reading WIPs in case they never get finished.

Anyway, hope that helps some! Good luck! ;-)

I get that, too. But more in the way of "I was sure I already put that down somewhere."

Brainstorming is necessary, too. It's mostly for characterisation, because I can't for the life of me figure out backstories and character motivations and that sort of thing. I'm a discovery writer and usually stick to one-shots, because they're easy. Less commitment. The only downside of shortfic is that you have to start anew all the time, and finding the words into a fic is very hard for me, because I don't manage to write crap first and edit later. Maybe if I allowed myself less time to get out a first draft?

Oh, I agree. Part of the reason I managed to write so much this year is because I went with the things I wanted to write. But I'm currently not putting any story-words down because I'm stuck with characterisation, and knowing I have many WIPs makes me unfocused. So I thought I could have a look at what other people have been waiting for to help me prioritise. I don't have a huge following so there aren't too many people I'm disappointing, but I'm also disappointing myself if I keep piling up WIPs without finishing them

I should stick to one-shots, lol.

Thank you!

I don't know if it helped that I posted and scheduled all the betad chapters of a story I written for years made me actually so far today written more than 500 words on it. I hope that in maybe 1000 more I can finish that chapter.

Now I just try to figure out what would be suitable for a guy that lived during Oscar Wilde's time in London?
If you seen Wilde, you might remember Orlando Blooms role as 'rentboy' and that is who I have in the story (found at gardenofflowers. It's just what would he appreciate?

Even if I not write more today I'm satisfied of what I written. It way more than I wrote last month.

That is excellent progress! I would venture to say that what you did definitely helped get you back into writing for it! Good luck for reaching that 1000 words that will finish off your chapter!

Hmm, you mean as a gift for the man in Oscar Wilde's time, right? I'm no expert in those times or what a 'rentboy' character would like, but I would suggest something like a beautiful book (if he is into stories) that he wouldn't buy himself, otherwise some beautiful clothes - maybe a shirt, scarf or jacket, depending how much your giver has to spend. A silk scarf, handkerchief or something like that in beautiful colours might be the best; something he could use as an accessory to his daily/best clothes that might remind him of the giver every time he uses it.

YAY for being satisfied! ;-)

Thank you for your words and also the suggestion of gifts. I didn't write more yesterday, but with what you come with I think it did help me with some ideas for the chapter/story. So I will definitely get to continue the writing today.

Wonderful! I'm glad to have helped! ;-)

Well I'm doing pretty good chipping away at a fic for GYWO Bingo and have rattled out 1050 over the past two days *pumps the air*
May. 2nd, 2015 11:14 pm (UTC)
WOOHOO! That is excellent progress! ;-)
May. 2nd, 2015 08:21 pm (UTC)
I got 2,600 words polished off and posted today. Now off to write some more.
May. 2nd, 2015 11:15 pm (UTC)
Fantastic! Well done - and good luck with more words! ;-)

May. 3rd, 2015 01:20 am (UTC)
I'm starting as of today, so 5/2 only - have hit my daily minimum goal, and the evening is young. :). Hoping for more on the same wip or to start another. :)
May. 3rd, 2015 10:18 am (UTC)
Excellent! I only started on the 2nd too, but am happy with my progress! Look forward to keeping up with you! ;-)

Nothing so far.

(But: The entry was posted yesterday. So Friday was long gone. ^^)

I will write something today. Or at least translate a little part. (*meh* I don't like translating something. *LOL* But I have to...)
May. 3rd, 2015 10:23 am (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that, but hopefully tomorrow will be better for you!

I can appreciate not wanting to translate (I am so lucky that English is my first language and I don't have to do that!), but I know you can do it! ;-)
May. 3rd, 2015 01:49 pm (UTC)
I did my 2k on the first...but spent the second reading all of the last chapter of homework for my class. It isn't due until the 18th, but now its done and I don't have to worry about it. Unless she gives us quizzes for the last 2 classes, I don't have any more homework for the class...so yay!

Today the goal is to make up for yesterday...and do today's count...so at least a 4k day if my brain cooperates and the dogs aren't a pain ;)
May. 4th, 2015 03:54 am (UTC)
That's an awesome start! Good luck getting the 4K in today! ;-)
May. 3rd, 2015 04:54 pm (UTC)
No actual progress to report, unless realizing that I've written myself into a corner counts. I'm starting to think that I may have to put this fic back on the shelf for later and find another way of addressing the prompt.
May. 4th, 2015 03:56 am (UTC)
Oh no! Corners are definitely not fun when you're trying to FINISH something. If you can't get out of it, try another WIP (if you have one, most of us have so many!); we won't judge! ;-)
